No..you need the custom recovery first..you then use the custom recovery to perform the backup.

    Nandroid restore failure: md5 Checksum

I have been using the nandroid backup in "532305-recovery-j_r0dd-mb200-v2-0-final-2-6-11-a" for months now and I did a successful "restore" with it, so I had a lot of confidence using it. I was tring to restore my Dext back to original Android 1.5, and I failed, so I eventually gave up and decided to use my latest Nandroid backups and give up for the day. Now I am finding that I cannot restore with my nandroid backups either.

First Nandroid in the Recovery failed. Then I tried going through adb and using "nandroid-mobile v2.2.1". But this also failed. This is what I am getting from "nandroid-mobile" is:

    "Verifying backup images...
    boot.img. OK
    cache.img: OK
    data.img: FAILED
    system.img: OK
mdsum: WARNING: 1 of the 4 computed checksums did NOT match
    Error: md5sum mismatch, aborting"

I tried a slightly older nandroid backup and got the exact same results. I checked the md5 file and there does not seem to be anything wrong. There is a checksum number for "data.img", and apart from the actual number, everything looks normal. The only fix I can think of is to generate another md5 for the "data.img" file and try to patch it.

    1. How do you generate an "md5" number on this android?
    2. Where is a text editor on this android?
    3. Any other suggestions?

I started from scratch re-loading "Adlxmod 2.1.5-2" and then used my Titanium backup to restore my Apps and data. There were a few minor descrepancies, but I got pretty close to what I lost on the Nandroid failure.

It looks like there might actually be a problem creating the "data.img" file. It probably has to do with particularly long files. I converted to "ClockworkskMod Recovery 3.2.0.1" to see if I could use that to restore the images. It basically failed at the MD5 checksums too and has no direct override provision.

I created a fresh ClockworksMod Nandroid backup set before going further.

At this point I decided to restore the image files manually using the "adb shell" and "flash_image" command. Everything looked OK, but when I tried to re-boot it hung at the while "Adlxmod" screen (I'm running "Adlxmod 2.1.5-2"). After about 15 min. I pulled the battery and tried to restart from cold. It ran through a few screens (most likely reformatting cache partitions and cold booting) but it also hung at roughly the same point.

I then restored my ClockworksMod Nandroid backups and it restored correctly, losing only a day's data.

Well..this recovery is for the Cliq not the Backflip. You should find the Backflip Section. But all in all we can still help.
You need to root your Backflip first. Then flash a custom recovery for the backflip then flash the ROM of your choice. Read Stickies!! There are sooooo many tutorials and threads about rooting and flashing...doesn't hurt to look around and READ!

See the post above yours. It's easier lol. Doing it your way your first line should look like

    $ su

Which should give you a # sign that looks like this

    #

At which time you should be prompted on you phones screen to allow superuser access. Once granted then

    # flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img

    You just missed one command.
