Motorola VE538
Looks awesome, but is it really a Motorola? some sources indicate that it is pure BenQ/Siemens , M7.....As a Benq/Siemens lover, this is really a nice move from Motorola, also Siemens in the past had a straight coop with Motorola....
Will it ever reach the European market? Is it Motorola interface or Benq? Does anyone ever experienced or saw this phone anywhere???? Or is it jus tmeant to be a chinese market phone??

it looks a lot like the m7...and yes, it is made by benq. i have this phone and there is nothing in it that even resembles motorola phones, except the logo on the case.
just use a usb data cable to upload jar files and then you can install them
btw, can you install themes or skins or smthng like that on this phone? i tried but no luck

VE538 is for sure a BenQ origin phone labeled with Motoroloa logo. Motorola and Siemens have shared technology in the past. For example the last Siemens phone SXG75 was based on the prototype of Motorola E1120. Unfortunately common motorola modding softwares will not work with this phone. Don't expect community support for VE538 from motorola communities. It's not a real Motorola device at all. However BenQ-Siemens communities might be more useful about this.

For the VE538 themes, you can use BenQ Siemens SXG75 themes.

Hi all,
I just recently bought this phone.
It cost me 13600 SLR for the phone and 2200 SLR for a 4GB transflash. (110SLR is around 1 US$)
I was able to get around with the phone. The microSD automatically installs as a USB drive and so synching music and file transfer is a breeze.
As for the 3G modem, the latest package of Motorola Drivers 3.9 supports this. It also installs a Data Interface apart from the modem. No flash interface.
I got the skins/themes from http://themes.modopo.com/index.php?m=11.
They are skins for Siemens SXG75.
More or less, the menu icons didn't change with the skins.
I just copied the sdt files to the transflash and then through the phone selected the file and selected install and the themes installed. But, only problem is themes should be in phone memory and it's limited to 25mb (minus the preset graphics & data) and so you can't install many themes at once but of course you can store many themes on transflash and install and use them as necessary.
This is in essence still a motorola. I tried to synch the phone with Siemens-BenQ phone Tools as well as Brew Commander but they don't recognize the phone. This shows that Motorola has indeed modified the original Siemens-BenQ phone. According to Motorola Website, latest version of MPT (5.1) should support this phone. I wasn't able to find a download for this version. (I ai't rich enough to buy the CD)
In short,
Java apps and Themes can simply be transferred and installed.
3G modem works with latest driver package.
Synch, even if USB synch is not available, it supports wap push and other means of synch and so, it's still worth it.
But, of course, no chances of modding. I didn't see anything missing from the phone. It's quite faster than most motorola phones and it can run heavy java games and programs.
For several reason, I still like this phone.
For downloads,
Java, download apps compatible for 320*240 MIDP 2. (Preferable Siemens SXG75 compatible or a Motorola VE compatible.)
Themes, try the siemens themes.
Hope this helps. If there's a need let me know, I can post a few guides.

Thanx for the info,TheEnlightment. I've ever heard that Siemens also can be modded. Maybe someday there's a hack for VE538. Btw,can you apply any mp3's as sms ringtone or it's preloaded without any options for changing? How's the sound quality?

Yup huatz.
Sorry. I don't know why ModMyMoto didn't notify of your message.
Yes. Siemens also can be modded and there are a lot of siemens mod guides and modmymoto equivalents for the brand. But, since Brew Commander didn't recognize the phone, I have a feeling that Motorola may have messed with the firmware.
Anyway, I just bought it last saturday and so have along way to go discovering stuff.
Yup.
You can apply any audio(wma,mp3,aac,amr) as a ringtone or sms tone. But, only catch is changing. When you navigate to sms tones, there's an option called more and when you go in, you get two opitions,
Melody and SMS/MMS Tone.
Tone can be On/Off/Beep.
Melody is where you select the Tone, when you press the the menu key while highlighting the Tone option, it just plays the current tone and gives impression you can't change the Tone. But, rather after highlighting tone, you have to press right soft key(change) to change the tone, this loads the file manager and you know the rest.
And, you can assign video ring tones to contacts as well. As far as I checked, there seems no option for a generic video ring tone though. But, have to check more.
Sound quality is not bad. Good. But, the speaker isn't as loud as the other motos I have come across. But, it has bluetooth and mini USB port and has an option called play on accessory in the music player. So, you can use a good fancy headset if you are seriuos about music. (I was given a free wired stereo headset)
Oh forgot to add one more thing, the keypad works well with Nokia java apps(but no Nokia API though) unlike the other motos which give trouble with key pad.
I just installed a bench marking app. I will post my results when I get the time.Last edited by TheEnlightenment; 09-25-2009 at 02:37 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Thank You so much,TheEnlightenment...

I'm thinking to buy one coz it's so cheap in my country now. It costs around 100 US dollars. Pretty cheap for the features the phone has.
I'm waiting for the benchmark results,bro..Thanx.
