[HOWTO] Switch keyboard layout (azerty/qwerty etc..)

But when the device is powered on there is no way to change or overwrite all these files as they are in use. And when the device is powered down you obvisiously can't acces the data on the phone itself.

Isn't there any mod for motorola milestone that:

- Has a French hardware keyboard lay out?

If you can get me both files (of the french keybd layout), or if you can share with me a link to either a rom containing the two files , or a nandroid backup or a rom where you had french kbd layout (only system.img - btw NEVER share data.img), I guess should be able to build a quick patch so you can flash it over the rom :-D

As for the original version I used the unroot how-to on How To: Root the Motorola Milestone | TheUnlockr

But it's also OK if you would advise me on a 2.2 mod that will work on the motorola milestone. It should be EU version so I will be able to choose Dutch interface language.

I would never share data.img of a nandroid backup as some files inside contains sensitive information, like your Motoblur login and password, in clear text! Just saying...

i copy the files from original 2.1 backup to CM 6.1 installed with no change

the layout key still work as menu key !!!

Finally found a solution that works. After resetting and reflashing my phone about 5 times this week I'm finally were I wanna be. 2.2 cronos mod for motorola milestone with perfect working hardware keyboard.

Anyhow, here is the easy solution:

1. Download Androidiani (only tested with 3.3 version!!!)
You can find it here: Androidiani OpenRecovery 3.3 - xda-developers

2. Copy the files to root of SD card, reboot the phone into recovery mode

3. Apply sdcard: update.zip

4. Select settings --> Keyboard layout (I wiped cache & dalvik cache first, just to make sure)

5. Change to whatever keyboard layout your phone has. Go back and reboot system

6. Let your stress float away (and maybe send me a message to thank me (?) )

WARNING: There are other versions of openrecovery, which also have the "change keyboard layout" feature but they DON'T WORK. GOT openrecovery DOES work if your using the GOT mod.
The original version found here on modmymobile by Skrilax_CZ also doesn't work. Wich is weird considering Androidiani 3.3 is based upon the the latest version of Skrilax_CZ(1.46)

Sorry, there is not a function included to do this. But I suggest you reedit one of the keyboard layouts (for example azerty) in openrecovery and let that one install. Problem solved... I think this approach should work. Do you think you'll manage to do this ?

Hello All..

I hope you could help me with a keyboard problem of my XT702 (Milestone).

The hard keyboard has a button to toggle the input language between Arabic/latin input which worked perfectly with the Motorola stock ROM, no matter if the system (phone) language was set to Arabic or English... no difference. A small notification icon was shown left beside the signal coverage icon at the right top corner.

After flashing many of customs Roms like iceandfire v3.2 (24-Sept-2011) it's not possible any more to type in arabic characters on the physical keyboard regardless the phone is set to arabic or english, the button to toggle language brings up Settings, further if pressed after selecting "New message", it calls up Add subject/Discard... the notification icon for the input language is gone too!

The soft keyboard is working and i can change from arabic to english .

1. Is it my mistake, did I miss any setting or update I have to flash ?
2. Is the original Motorola keyboard available to set up (install apk or else)?
3. Alternatively, is the there a different keyboard solution available like the WM

Any help with this would be very much appreciated. Thanks a lot in advance.
