Playing a bit with the kernel

Hi guys, I've been playing a bit lately with the cliqxt kernel and I included some tweaks which I would like you all to try before I merge it to CM

I have packed up the new kernel and modules into a build to ease the process (and make up for the lack of nightlies lately )

    Full build: November 25
    MD5 aea5546dd1f65a4622ccdbc23c7802e1

    EDIT: New updated build
    Full build: December 28
    MD5 3239f52910799d220a77970be795b102

    EDIT: Updated build again
    Full build: December 6
    MD5 98c45f13877c7de89d7597294fd1e4c0

    EDIT: And again
    Full build: December 16
    MD5 05f93fefa1166b8b89fed3edb47c998f

EDIT: First 2012 build to celebrate the new year!
    Full build: January 2
    MD5 182e7e19c6c0b14111fe7a4a984660db

    EDIT: Another one
    Full build: January 14
    MD5 f3e23903c2e1903a9d78f5b2e7337ca9

    EDIT: small update
    Full build: January 21
    MD5 8834dbe1b7c83a18e291a5ceb0af06b8

EDIT: CM update, in preparation for 7.2-RC1
    Full build: February 1
    MD5 6c07a65ab122874bc6cc66d4eb7f7b2b

Of course if you're using other CM7 based ROM you can try flashing the boot.img and copying the modules on system/lib/modules/ to your phone.

Changes I did, if anyone is interested:
    • Optimization of misc. algorythms (sha1, lookup2, crc32)
    • Switch to Tiny RCU
    • Disable write cache on USB file transfer

EDIT The new build also has a fix on the camera stack for an issue related to zooming and other small improvements which aren't merged in CM just yet.

    Looking forward to your feedback!

It is not included, as it doesn't work well on some people's phones and I intend to merge this upstream

So are these builds based off the latest nightly (255) ?

I just flashed... I didn't check it out first, but I guess this is deodexed. I wish all our builds were...

Yes, the second build is deodexed. I was considering if I should disable dexpreopt or not, opinions? I haven't settled yet for any side yet.

The build was made with a synced up tree, so it contains all the changes from CM (plus some extra patches that haven't been reviewed on Gerrit yet)

My vote is to disable dexpreopt... I don't notice a significant change in speed whether I run an odexed or deodexed version of CM7.

I was running a odexded CM7 for a while, since 3 days ago i'm running the GROGG's deodexded CM7.1 and i can't see a consistent speed change as well...

EDIT: Can i flash this without clear/wipe data/cache??

My vote is to disable dexpreopt too, it will be easy for theming.

    @turl:

Do you have plan to work on higher version kernel, like 2.6.31?

@clong I don't think the kernel can be ugraded to a newer one I guess it has something to do with the bootloader but that is just my guess.Maybe someone else would know
