if i install jrodd's recovery onto my phone before i go into recovery mode, will that perform a nandroid backup for me? like backing EVERYTHING up like contacts, pictures, private installed apps, etc.?

oh right..sorry, i havnt slept in about 20 hours and forgot this is for the CLIQ XT, sorry about that. To answer your question, i forgot to do a nand backup but before i did anything with it i copy pasted everything on the SD card into a folder on my desktop and motoBLUR backs up most things. just make sure to log into your existing motoBLUR account when you install your new ROM (thats what i assume your doing) and you should have everything. I didnt lose any data, or if i did motoBLUR (as terrible as it is) should bring it back. so basically i would sugest connecting your phone as a USB drive and copy paste everything over, then sync with google and motoBLUR and then flash the img and you should be good

There are options in nandroid to back up just the phone memory (including apps on phone memory) or the phone mem +apps on sd (and iirc you can just back up the apps on sd). A nandroid back up will backup/restore everything on your phone as is, contacts, settings, apps, depending on which backup option you choose ofcourse.
Titanium backup is more for backup/install/removal etc of apps, it does some other things, but doesnt touch the phone memory.
I use both on my phone, nandroid is essential if your modding your phone. Titanium backup is good for backing up your apps as it allows more flexibility with backingup/restoring apps.

is nandroid available for the android's 1.5 market? OR is it a utility that is already in jr0dd's recovery.img?
im looking at this http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.ph...NDroid_backups and since amon_ra's recovery has the backup/restore, im assuming jr0dd has it as well, since he based it off amon_ra's recoveryLast edited by xJAYEMMx; 12-25-2010 at 02:47 AM.

i did the steps slightly differently though, but does this look right?:
C:\Windows\system32>cd\
C:\>cd c:\androidsdk\tools
c:\androidsdk\tools>adb push recovery.img /sdcard/recovery.img
1407 KB/s (4292608 bytes in 2.979s)
c:\androidsdk\tools>adb shell
$ flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
error writing recovery: Permission denied
$ su
su
Permission denied
$ su
su
# flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
# mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 system
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 system
# cd system
cd system
# rm recovery.img
rm recovery.img
# exit
exit
$ exit
exit
edit: so, once i do a nandroid backup before going into 2.1, then after installing 2.1, will i be able to get my installed apps back in the same exact state theyre in when i was on 1.5? meaning the saved game datas and all that
2nd edit: i should be able to restore my nandroid from 1.5(the boot.img, cache.img, data.img, nandroid.md5 and system.img) into 2.1 right?Last edited by xJAYEMMx; 12-25-2010 at 04:52 PM.

xJAYEMMx Make it easier
adb devices
adb shell
su (when writing this, look at the phone, you have to jump the Superuser, and select Allow)
And then do the rest

Hi j_r0dd
I was just thinking about other ways to get around my issue with bad blocks in the recovery partition...
Do you think its possible to use a symlink to read the recovery from the SD rather than the phones storage using the ln -s command?
I'm guessing possibly not since the main OS is not loaded?
##EDIT: sorry posted in the wrong thread can a mod move this the the cliq/dext forum?Last edited by chaos_ed; 12-26-2010 at 05:40 AM.
