How hard is it to install a custom ROM once one is available?

It's quite simple, just flash J_r0dd's custom recovery, and place the custom ROM's zip file on your SDCard, and boot the phone while holding the Camera button, then select the zip file to update from.
I would recommend installing the F-22 ROM until a 2.1 ROM is developed.Last edited by cwierts1; 09-04-2010 at 01:12 PM.

Yes, boot into j-rodd recovery and perform backup, then Nand backup. This will create an image of what you have on the XT now, in case you want to go gack to it later.
Then to install the Raptor ROM, use j-rodd to wipe first, then flash from zip the raptor, finally reboot to a great ROM. Just follow the instruction here http://modmymobile.com/forums/558-mo...1-31-44-a.html and no problems.Last edited by ducati9; 09-04-2010 at 01:55 PM.

Thanks for the tutorial!!!
My first rooted phone and it was not hard, thanks to everyone's generous work.
After installing Super Manager I delete ~10 of MOTO's bloatware apps and the phone is running faster and much smoother. I used WiFi Fixer to keep my wireless connection working (after the 1.32.16 update, the WiFi connection would fail and I could not reconnect without rebooting the phone).
I'm now one happy XT owner who's waiting for an awesome 2.1/2.2 ROM.
