First time modding

I have a t mobile cliq xt and i need help modding it. This is my first time modding a cell phone i rooted my phone already but i cant seem to get the custom rom to work. I downloaded onto the sd card but i cant extract it can someone one post a step by step guide to how to install a rom.

How to Install
1. Root the Device - Instructions
2. Install j_r0dd's Recovery - Instructions
3. Download your particular flavor of XT ROM (some here)
4. Place ROM ZIP into the root of the SDCARD.
5. Boot into Recovery (Power + Camera Button)
6. Nand Backup your stock ROM.
7. Wipe *all* data (Including Data/Cache/Dalvick)
8. Install ZIP, pick the ROM you downloaded.
9. Reboot System
10. Enjoy.

These instructions worked for me and I admit I am still a complete noob when it come to modding these phones. So Good Luck and have fun with your un-shackled XT
