Thread: Small Custom Recoveries?
- 07-18-2011, 03:00 AM #31
Hi,
if I understand correctly, using my app you managed to flash a recovery to the phone, right?
You say the phone was using Cupcake, I guess when you rooted it you didn't remove the file /system/recovery.img ...
So, I guess you flashed the recovery using my app, then rebooted into it
, then rebooted into cupcake, and at this point the phone tried to flash the stock recovery again (it's a feature of the cupcake stock roms :/ ).
What I don't understand is why it would bootloop from then. IDK. Sorry for the hassle man.
I have to add a feature to my app that will warn the users if /system/recovery.img is there, and propose to remove/rename it to avoid problems. (it's not a bug, it's a missing feature at the moment).
If you are going to try again, before running my app, try to use Root Explorer to delete the file /system/recovery.img (remount the /system as RW first). If you prefer/need to use adb, this would be the command (I think):
Code:cmd.exe c:> adb shell busybox mount -o remount,rw /system c:> adb shell busybox rm /system/recovery.img c:> adb shell busybox mount -o remount,ro /system

Prior to using your recovery flasher, I had already attempted to flash j_r0dds 1.7.6 and newer recoveries.
But when trying to boot into recovery I would get the "Security On Fastboot Disabled" Screen. And when trying to flash the recovery it would give me the "could not write xxxxxx bad blocks" syndrome. Since my wife wanted to throw her phone into the ocean when she went to hawaii I tried to "fix" it and successfully flashed a custom recovery for the first time. But after a reboot the CWM I flashed was no longer present. I know there wasn't a recovery there before the flash. I'm going to start over again and see what happens...hopefully I can get the bad blocks reading then flash CWM..

I've made a mod of latest CWM 5.0.1.0 to make it a bit smaller (from 3392Kb to 2876KB). Hopefully people with bad block issues may now be able to flash it.
Here it is:

It's also available for flashing though my 1-click Recovery Flasher (on the Market).Download my 1-click Recovery Flasher to flash a custom or stock recovery to your phone: Cliq, CliqXT, Backflip, ...

It still failed for me. However, stock motorola recovery, 2474kb, flashed ok. Is there any way to make custom recoveries as small as that?

Let's see this time
: Extra-Extra-Small Mod of CWM Recovery: 2220KB ONLY!! (flash ok and boots ok, not functionally tested, but should be ok).

Of course, easiest way to flash is using my 1-Click Recovery Flasher app, available on the Market for free (donations accepted)Download my 1-click Recovery Flasher to flash a custom or stock recovery to your phone: Cliq, CliqXT, Backflip, ...
