I found a solution!

If RSD lite is constantly failing or not showing your device.

Rename the SHX file to rooted.shx and place into the RSD folder.

1.) Click the Start button.
2.) Type CMD (win xp skip to step 4 and press enter after cmd)
3.) You will see CMD appear at the top of the search. Right click on it and say run as administrator.

4.) Type the below exactly how you see it followed by pressing enter. If you are not on 64 bit windows you do not need the (x86) from below.

cd c:
cd program files (x86)
cd motorola
cd rsd lite
sdl.exe -f rooted.shx -t 2

That should be it.

VIOLA!

I agree, as long as you have no compatibility issues with the tools, this is exceptionally easy to do. Unfortunately, the tool (RSD Lite) was not really built for today's systems (specifically 64-bit Windows 7, which seems to be the main problem here).

Mine worked just fine I'm using Windows 7 64 bit

will there be a tutorial on how to unroot it? Just incase I have to send my phone in for insurance reasons? lol

Reflash back the CLIQ stock firmware (firmware superthread).

I don't know what that means or how to do that if i needed too.

I am on Windows 7 64-bit... Certain files will flash, others will not. It's really hit or miss. It always works on XP for me.

Since we have root now and have access to it through the phone and terminal emulator will work for us can't we just flash a custom recovery like Amon_Ra's latest with the mount -a and flash_image recovery xxx.img commands through the terminal? Makes sense to me, if we can flash the custom recovery now since we have root then we can easily install any ROMs we want like 2.1 or Hero, I can't flash atm and probably not till tommorow so that's why I'm asking. Sounds like it'd work to me but what do you guys think?

I doubt you could. Amon_Ra has different versions of his Recovery image. One for the dream and two for the Sapphire (32A and 32B) that I have seen. So I don't think it would be safe flashing a recovery image built for a certain phone on a phone that's not of that type.

It is exactly the same process used to root it, only you flash an unrooted firmware obtained from the linked thread.

Oh yea that's true, forgot that his recoveries were only specifically tailored for the G1/MT3G. Looks like a custom recovery is up next in line for the CLIQ. Get on it devs!
