Unrooting/Unbricking your CLIQ

While root is awesome, the question often comes up as to how to unroot. I see this at Android and Me (where I do some blogging and moderating) as well, and even had someone voice their opinion that there is not enough information on UN-rooting an Android device. With that, here's a very short tutorial on how to do this with the CLIQ.

Prerequisites:
Motorola Device Drivers

Motorola 4.2.0 Driver with MotoConnect* (for 32-bit versions of Windows®)

Motorola 4.2.0 Driver with MotoConnect* (for 64-bit versions of Windows®)

RSD Lite 4.5.7 or higher.

If you do not have it installed, Google it.

Step 1
Download Firmware from the Firmwares Superthread and unzip to any location. NOTE: It is VERY important that you use the .shx that corresponds with the radio version on your phone. In short, if you don't know how to tell, ask somebody, because if you do the wrong one, you will mess up your phone.

Step 2
Run RSD Lite and select the SHX file you unzipped in Step 1, select the phone and click Start. Your phone should reboot into the bootloader and flash the unrooted firmware. It will then reboot again into your Setup Wizard.

Step 3
There is no Step 3... There is no further action required.

NOTE 1
This will erase all of your internally stored data including all applications.

NOTE 2
For 64-bit Windows 7, you may need to take extra steps to install the drivers from Motorola. Genibus provided instructions at the Motorola Developer forums but I will be copying here to make it easier. For now, use his process posted at http://community.developer.motorola..../m-p/3322#M359 and augment to use the newest drivers as linked above. You should not have to do this unless RSD Lite does not recognize your phone.

Is there another way to unroot it without SHX file? Is it possible to make an update.zip file instead? I waited for 4hours and my phone was at 24% and my phone turned on randomly and stayed on so idk whats going on? It never finished updating and it was stuck at 24%?

The way you speak of is the way of the rooted recovery. shx has to be done to unroot, that was the only way to root the phone to begin with.

when I open up RSD lite it wont find the phone is there something I'm suppose to do with the phone like mount it? I also restarted the computer and installed those drivers and nothing is showing up

are u using vista? if u are turn off user account control. that wuz my problem when rsd wouldnt find my cliq

Bad times...RSD lite won't work when I try to flash the phone, flashing fails, I receive an error message saying : "Unable to retrieve interface handle" please, any help with this would be greatly appreciated as I need to send the phone to motorola because the keyboard sporadically spazzes out on me.

is there anyway someone could throw up a mirror site with the shx file for 1.1.13.. the download link provided works, but never completes.. obviously corrupting the archived file...

Hi, I had the same issue when trying to download the firmware, I had to use a program such as DAP to ensure the completion of the file, and it worked.

even with dap it doesnt allow me to to actually dl to the .zip file.. just a php file.. even if i copy the .zip download url...

Let the first download start. Once the first download gets to about %30 to %40 downloaded then start the same .shk file download. When done the first will not complete the download but the second one will.

So here's my question. With this new radio thingy floating around " 1.3.8" will we still be able to unroot if needed or does someone have to create a new .shx file in-order to make that happen?

ok this is pissing my off...I am trying to unroot my cliq so that I can take it into T-Mo but rsd keeps giving me the fail issue..i googled it nothing...searched nothing can anyone help me out
