Success Rooting brazilian Dext from Claro

I just rooted my brazilian DEXT phone from claro today. Just followed the steps on the sticky topic and everything went fine.
I had to adjust the APN properly. For anyone who has to do the same, the apn is claro.com.br, username is claro and password is claro.

Best thing is that claro replaces the default google search with the yahoo search. Having google search back is awesome!!

    Regards
    André

    André,

I'm struggling with my Claro Dext for 2 days. I successfully rooted it but now the phone only works in 2G EDGE mode. Which city do you live in? Is it working on 3G?

    Thanks,

    Ricardo (ricardo@jaera.com.br)

Hi, I also have a Dext from Claro, after the rooting 3G/Edge networking disapeared.

Fortunately the restore went well, I got Claro firmware back in place.

Tha APN setup is the only thing needed?

ricpf3, the only thing i needed to make 3g work was setting up the correct APN for claro. Did you set it up?

I live in Rio de Janeiro, by the way...

Paulo, could you make your stock firmware backup available to us?

Edge is OK, 3G won't authenticate

Weirdest thing is that I corrected the APN's, EDGE works fine, tried several other SIM cards but when I select "3G only" the phone keeps displaying the "forbidden" sign on the signal display, and you cannot even complete calls. If you select 2G mode, everything works perfectly.

When I select "3G only", the signal displays the forbidden sign momentarily, changes to the bar signal for like, 2 seconds, and then get back to forbidden sign forever.

This symptom started right after I flashed the 1.1.14 original T-mobile. (before the rooting). I'm wondering if that update messed up with my radio somehow. If anybody backed up the original firmware from claro I would appreciate. I tried all the firmwares I found around here, including rooted and original T-mobile and Orange UK/France.

Thanks to everybody for all the support. Hope I can pay back somehow someday.

Hi, it is me again with some new data:

As soon as I got the dext to another geographical location (another RBS, radio base station), the phone authenticated on 3G Claro, but, with very low signal (almost dying). Phone and internet working, though.

I have a N97 US 850/1900 (the UMTS for claro is 850Mhz) side-by-side and the N97 has a solid full signal bar. Perhaps this firmware disables the dext 850Mhz frequency and I'm authenticating on their fresh installed claro 2100Mhz (I heard claro will cover 850 AND 2100Mhz in São Paulo.

but why GPRS works, well, it could be:

the portion of the RBS which serves UMTS in my neighborhood has any issue with the T-Mobile/Orange operator customizations (perhaps the phone has some "hardcoded" info it tries to exchange with the antenna).... or am I tripping?

Will try to recover it with the original firmware and see what happens. Thanks for those who spared the time to read my sluggish english.

    Hi,

I returned my phone to factory config and made a nandroid backup. If someone contact me in private providing a FTP server or other service I can upload it "pra galera".

    just a small obs.

The method i used to root my phone was the old one that uses RSDLite and a SHX file from TMobile (tmo-morrison-viper-1.1.31-P3-rootebythedude.zip.

Are you guys from Sao Paulo? Could it be the problem?

I tried all the methods, with the bootloader and through shx. Even tried original firmwares from t-mobile and orange. Paulo says that he will upload me the original firmware, and I'll host to the folks and link on firmwares superthread as soon as I get it.

Will post the results of the original firmware soon. I'm starting to think my device has some hardware problem.

For those whom were waiting the brazil's dext claro nandroid backup, here it is:

    http://download.jaera.com.br/BCDMRS12-20091230-2143.7z

Unfortunately and unbelievably, my phone is not connecting to the 3G network even after the restore. ANY ideas will be appreciated. I'm running out of choices.

Have you tried to remove and then re-insert the battery again? Worked for me one time...

    Root and Rom applied

I am Brazilian and I have Root and I applied the Orange and T-Mobile Rom with Sucess. My provider is Claro too. 3G was working good, but I disabled, deleting the APN config because I don't purchase a data package, then account would be very expensive.

hmmm...could be hardware if yours is the only one that is doing it...or it could be like some say "user error"...lolololol...just kidding, it probably is just a hardware issue, flash it back to stock, send it in and try it again on a new one. At least that is what I would do.
