[HOW-TO]Root the Motorola Cliq[ANY BOOTLOADER]

I am currently rooted with 1.3.18, im wondering if i were to try another rom using 1.4.8, would it work?
i know i wont be able to downgrade to .18 after, but im just curious and damned sick of these update messages which i cant get rid of -.-

u have to push the recovery then update to a root rom

can someone please give me the EXACT key presses to update the 2nd part when you run the adb code and reset into the new recovery?

Here is my problem

I had a running root rom working from this thread. Then I decided to run metamorph which hung the phone at 28/30 right on framework.apk. So I rebooted my phone and it was all jacked up. Luckily I had a nandroid backup which took me to the end of the first step. Basically I have the Orange fw right now. The main problem is that the boot menu does not show up. I know it works because the key presses do things but I can not see what I am doing. So after doing the adb code to make the new recovery.img boot what are the EXACT key presses to update to the kb7's 1.4.8 rom? Thank you in advance!

I screwed something up and now have a locked bootloader and a black screen for a recovery image! I can still connect to adb and rsd, am I screwed? I tried reflashing the stock ROM through rsd but FAIL, I guess because the bootloaders locked. It seems like recovery still works but no image comes on the screen. I could flash a ROM through here if I knew the exact key presses(volume down, home) to flash it. Any help???? And thanks to all in advance....oh and key presses to wipe first also.....thanks again!

Hey everyone, im brand new to this Root thing, and although it took me about 3 hours to get my Cliq "rooted"(?) thanks to all of you! I finally did it successfully using the guide at the beggining.

So I followed all the instructions and dint have any major problems or errors. However I am now in 1.4.8 and I do not have root access. My system info says:
Blur version 1.4.8 mb200 tmobileus
Kernal version 2.6.27 kb7sql@thinkpad #1

edit: actually i do have root. nevermind. but when i launch superuser.apk all i get is a black screen.

I just flashed the handler 1.6 and have a couple issues the recovery screen stays blank I. Have to use droidexplorers screenshots to see what I'm doing in recovery also the bluetooth no longer works. I have two cliqs and it is the same on both . Thanks for all your great work

i belive theres an issue with old recoverys thts y u have to update ur recovery if ur usin 1.4.8 or 1.6

Yes, he needs to update it. Also the current Handler 1.6 (alpha7) is not a fully released build; that is why it is called an alpha
