[HOW-TO]Root the Motorola Cliq[ANY BOOTLOADER]

Note: Dext users may lose 3g with this method!

Download these three files and put them in the root of your sdcard.(you must have adb on your computer)

File 1 : http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles/...ange.en.FR.zip (rename to "update.zip")
File 2 : http://blog.handlerexploit.com/files/recovery.img
File 3 : Handler-1.5-update-signed.zip - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download(Handler 1.5, if you are 1.3.18)
File 3b : http://tinyurl.com/yjsdhwp (kb7sqi 1.4.8 if you are 1.4.8)

Step 1 : Boot into stock recovery(Camera+Power then Vol Down)(press Alt + L to see options)and flash file one.
Step 2 : Load up adb when the computer recognizes it type :


Step 3: Pull the battery and then reinsert it and go into your new custom recovery.(Camera+Power)
Step 4: Wipe and then flash the second update.

Quick question? Now that I am rooted and running a custom rom, if I want to try a new rom out do I have to go back to my pc and flash it again to get the custom boot screen. When I had a G1 back in the day I don't think I had to do that.

No. Just dl the ROM put it on your sdcard root. And flash it through the custom recovery.

When I reboot the phone, and hold down the camera and the power button it take me to the screen that gives me the choices of reboot, update and wipe, is that the right screen?

Yes that screen is the custom recovery. Be sure to do a nand backup first then a wipe (both data and dalvik) then flash zip from sdcard. Also be sure to read what radio the ROM needs that way u don't have any issues.

Is this root for UK Dexts that are on 1.3.20? If not, which one is. Sorry for being a noob :P

everytime i try to flash the recovery image i get this message:
uasge: flash_image partition file.img

any ideas on whats wrong??

Adb shell flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img

Or ignore adb & shell and do it from terminal emulator.

This is probably a dumb question, but after I root would I be able to flash back to the stock t-mobile firmware/ROM and keep root?

I'm having problem with the recovery.img , when I enter it on CMD it says:

usage: flash_image partition file.img

When Reboot the device into recovery the Image doesn't work..!
