Thanks for the help. I ended up walking myself through it after spacemonkey333 told me about the Alt+L on the triangle-exclamation point screen. It is pretty straight forward. Although I'll have to write up a quickie tutorial for myself so I don't forget, lol.

You need to install the SDK, then navigate to the folder that has it, probably:
c:Androidandroid-sdk-windowstools

Then try again.

It's in the path, but even if I go there I still get exec /system/bin/sh failed. All three files are on the SD card. It seems to not be able to find the sh binary in the system dir on the phone itself, does that mean that the phone's system dir is corrupt/missing? Is there a way to fix that?

edit: btw there is no more exclamation point screen in recovery, just blackness, although the USB connection works. I do not seem to be able to flash update.zip though.

I am glad people were working on ways to root the newer radios. I heard Handler had briq one of his phone and shipped a replacement with the new radio and wasnt even able to test out his roms. I love his work. Good work guys.

thank you gentleman/ i have had this thing for a week and been lurking these forums for the same time/ had a behold II and got rid of it in favor of this/ needless to say alot more complex than my g1/ then again xda forums might as well be HTC them selves/ this forum however is the best resource out there for the cliq/ so thank you again and handler/ you are a pimp my freind/ i would put you on par with Jesus freak and Cynogan from xda =) (back in the day XDa/ when r33 came out) thanks again though/ and kb7 you both deserve a coke and a smile/ keep up the good work

I was a former XDA member but got my cliq up to par now. Root in progress. Ok I seem to be getting snag here. I downloaded the first file renamed it to update.zip and then downloaded the recovery.img and then handlers rom(Not renamed) Booted to Moto Recovery and Alt-W to wipe then ALt-L to load and I am getting the following:

-> Pick1
-- Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(No such file or directory)
Installation aborted.

All three files are at root directory and the only data on the card are these 3 files the card is readable on my computer.

Try renaming the file to just "update" with no ".zip" after it. It sounds like the file extensions are hidden on your computer, so when you name it "update.zip", it is actually "update.zip.zip". This has happened to me before. Hope that makes sense...

I'm trying to flash the recovery, but I get: "error opening /sdcard/recovery.img: No such file or directory".

Right we just covered that one... If your on windows and you renamed it then you prob have update.zip but have Extensions hidden so what you really have on your sdcard is Update.zip.zip so Just rename it to update and save back to the sdcard and give it another go.
