ok i know this is stupid but i need help. Im getting tired of waiting for the 2.1 upgrade 4 my winter white cliq. i heard that there was a way to hack your phone and get a 2.1 named eclair2cliq ROM i think. can you first explain 2 me wat ROM is well i dont really know. can you explain what root is and also what flashing is. and can you give me a step by step guide on what to do to get the eclair2cliq. also can you tell me the dangers of doing this cause i also want to use metamorph and customize my phone but it says root access needed. O and about the danger parts if something goes wrong is it possible to factory reset the phone and if i have to get a replacement? thanks and please tell me what i will need and step by step guide. Well you come to the right place. I would suggest read, read, read.
I, personally, read this site for a good month before my first post and took a lot of notes (yes actually hand wrote notes). Took notes on how to root, what radio version I had, if my firmware was available, how to set up adb, rsd, and motodrivers. I dont know.. a lot of people have been asking the same questions over and over again without doing the preliminary things first and that is to read and understand what it is you are trying to accomplish.
I really hate that I sound rude but if you read any of the other threads there are about 3 other noobs asking on HOW TO or HELP with root.
Again sorry if it comes of as rude. Not trying to be.. I actually do give out alot of pointers and advice. Just gets really repetative at times. Good Luck on your quest.

Rooting- allows u complete control over your phone, so you can change things like apps, themes, and other stuff on phone
Flashing- changing the firmware
o yea i downloaded the motodriver 4 the cliq from the motorola website, and also downloaded rsd lite 4.5.7 and the android sdk (if i need it, i saw videos where they didnt use this at all). i didnt really understand ADB i know its a tool from the SDK but what is it used 4? and do i need it lol? i found a video that looked too easy YouTube - Rooting the Motorola Cliq
can u plz go over the vid and tell me if this is a good video to use, and i still cant find the link 4 to download and use eclair2cliq i searched every where and all it says is "hackers release 2.1 before motorola" can you help me with that if you know anything about it.
i tried the method on the video a few days back for TheDudesBoot but doesnt seem to work for Eclair2CLIQ
as its a zip file..
currently waiting for CliqAnDroid to make a video on how to root to Eclair2CLIQ within the next few days..
ok thanks. i got one question while rooting how long does it take? cause in this website it says the phone will come back on but mine stayed in the bootloader 4 like 20 mins and when i runned the cmd adb devices it said my phone was offline. so i got scared i bricked it so i took out the battery. was i sposed to wait longer? the guy at the website wont answere.
