FAILING Noob! :[ Help?

So I've rooted, blah blah what not, Tried a few different roms for a while, until I moved up to BrwnMods 2.1 ROM, Rom works fine, but the only internet I have to use on my computer is through tethering my cliq. Long story short, when I tether my 3G connection, and I'm using heavy data, Ie downloading files, or streaming videos, after a while my phone would just restart. When I use wifi to tether It happens much less often but still happens, and is very frustrating when it does.

So I decided to flash Aldx 1.2 cupcake ROM to see if it was just an issue with 2.1 roms, and now, it still does the same thing, even more now than with my 2.1 rom.

So my obvious guess is that it's not the roms I'm flashing but something else....

I've been searching forums and searching, and searching and searching and searching, and I'm about ready to unroot back to stock , and then throw my cliq down the toilet.........


I'm just beyond frustration. Help me out? I've been a big supporter for a while to all the devs out there, and now one of your fave cliq modders is failing... xD

if you have an app or widgets that switches from 2g to 3g or like turns off wifi and stuff, it will do that.

I did, but I had just flashed adlx's 1.5 rom right before I wrote this post. So it does it even with a fresh naked ROM Flashed. I've noticed that it normally only happens when I use 3G. A fix would be to stay on edge of course. But I really hate T-Mobiles EDGE speeds. And I'm sure developers would advise modders not to use 3G had they known phone crashing would be a problem, but 3G Compatible roms are engouraged. So... :\ Maybe I should just un-root and restore to stock and then re-root? Even though I'd rather not.

Even browsing the market when the network is transfering data, before I download anything will cause it.

That's a really weird issue. I know when I'm at work the only internet I have is my Cliq through tethering. Before I rooted I used PDAnet which honestly, limits the amount of bandwidth you can attain. Well figure I start tethering at 10:30am, by 2pm my phone used to restart. Since I rooted, out of habit when I'm done with the tethering I restart my phone. It might be a hardware issue or software considering the amount of power the phone generates while constantly using the 3G.

I keep my setting on automatic though and tether with barnacle and it's honestly a lot faster than PDAnet. It could be the constant use of 3G capping out your phone...

It is just really frustrating. When I'm in the middle of a video, or downloading a file, then *poof* reboot.

I can just unroot, but now I'm really determined to find out exactly what the problem is.

It does it more often when I use barnacle to. Because I'm forced out of using wifi so barnacle can transmit. But I did like barnacle, had to get rid of it, because there was no use, my phone would reboot everytime.

When I tether, I kill every running app except my task killer and wifi tether program. I keep my phone plugged into the computer for a constant charge and put it to sleep by turning off the screen. I really must admit though, it's neurotic but my phone hasn't rebooted since I flashed, and I'm running j_r0dd's beta 7.

I think that the high demand of usage for your tethering is requiring your phone to be dedicated, so try killing all the other running apps.

Lol yeah, the Cliq does have it's issues. For a month and a half my camera was blurred and stuff. When I finally decided to call and get a replacement, an hour and half later after the call, my camera goes back to normal. Lol. Ah, this is what we get for pursuing one of the first android phones out there :P

xD Yeeeup. I came over from HTC... Hooray for windows mobile. And I've been wanting an HD2 but no one will trade for 2 cliqs. lol.... but thanks for the insight.

Is your machine hot all the time, even when asleep. Some cliqs seem to switch themselves permanently on as far as running processes go and it sounds like the machine is overloading. Task killer helps as does keeping widgets off the homepage but as you are wiping and installing new ROMS the latter should not be a problem.

When you wiped, did you also wipe the battery settings. A good idea to do so. Have you tried switching off and removing the battery for a few minutes and switching back on. I run the brwmn 2.1 ROM myself and there have been the odd occasions when it has gone into manic mode and lost half a battery charge when asleep overnight (this was due to widgets like ebay, paypal and skype being on the homepage and still running even when killed with task killer). You could try purehandler 1.00 as this is the most polished and minimalistic 1.5 android ROM available
