Quick backup +market question
Hey guys, I have a small question. I backed up my apps and settings via Titanium backup (free version), and now I am wondering, if I flash a new ROM, and then install Titanium from the market (while all of the links are still there), and restore my backup, will it mess up my apps in the market? Will the links still be there and will everything work properly?
If that sounded unclear, let me know. Thanks in advance.

Everything will work fine.
Try Google search. You'd be surprised how many answers are floating around on the internet.

You need the paid version to do the market link fix (if you use titanium to restore previously installed apps).

What are you talking about? There is only one Titanium Backup in my market and its FREE. You just need to check the "Market Link" box in the preferences of Titanium Backup. Thats all.
Like I told you in the first post, everything will work fine. If all your apps dont show up, just wait for Google to refresh your Downloads list via app update or something like that. They will show up though. No worries. If all else fails, feel free to blame me.Last edited by VontaelP; 09-06-2010 at 11:34 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

How about launching the App, and see what you get when you pay for it. It is the same app, but it looks for a TitaniumBackup_license.txt in your sdcard to enable the paid features. Here: Titanium Backup for Android
It is actually more like "donate-ware" to enable the extra features, including market link fix.
Here, if you don't like clicking links or reading the message in the app on your phone:
Sure, you can manually install all your apps the first time you launch the market after a factory reset (from the downloads area), then you don't need to worry about this, but if you quit the market, then the market will no longer link the original apps you had installed, so you will either have to search and install them all again from the market, or use the donate-ware titaniumbackup to do the market link fix. If you don't donate, it still tracks your installed apps, but the market fix won't work until you pay for it.Additional features of the Donate version:
* Branding to your name
* Multiple backups per app (history length can be chosen)
* Zero-click background batch restore
* Batch verification of all backups
* Ultra fast HyperShell (much faster for almost everything)
* Market Doctor can remake any broken Market links (only for apps that were backed up with the link in place)
* App freezer can disable an app (and make it invisible) without un-installing it
* Unlimited, independent scheduled backups (each of which can run 1 to 7 times a week)
* Dalvik cache cleaner can free up precious internal memory

Look, the only app you need to download after a fresh factory reset is Titanium Backup. Even if your links disappear, which they should because they are no longer installed on your phone, after you restore through TB you will see them again. It seems as if you are over complicating such a simple question.
YES your apps will be backed up and restored using Titanium Backup.
YES it will also restore Market Link in Downloads section.
Thats it, Thats all. I understand what you are saying I would just rather leave the answer short and sweet as to NOT confuse the OP. I hope you understand. Thanks for the extra info.Try Google search. You'd be surprised how many answers are floating around on the internet.

Ok, how about this:
*You can't restore any apps using titaniumBackup (or any other application backup app) if you want to get upgrades for those apps in the future, unless you do the market fix.
*You can download & install your apps you previously installed the FIRST time you go into the market after a reset, and you don't need any backup applications for this, this is a feature of the google Market Place (shame the feature doesn't extend to everytime you go into the market rather than just the first time you go into the market). Paid apps from the market are exempt here, the Market will always remember what paid apps you have paid for.
TitaniumBackup will not restore the market link (i.e. when you go into the market and see your app is downloaded and installed) unless you have the donate version, I just did this 2 weeks ago and know this is the behaviour from experience.

Im done with this thread. My apologies Original Poster, I hope your questions are resolved as I have no intentions of going back and forth over who is right or wrong. My final suggestion would be trying the free version first. If it doesnt work, Donate. Later.Try Google search. You'd be surprised how many answers are floating around on the internet.

It will restore market links (according to the documentation) but for some reason I had to use the doctor (I was experimenting with logging into different blur accounts but used the same google account).

Thank you for your time, I will make sure to experiment with the free version next time I flash a new ROM, and see how that works out. Also, I think it is easier to just do nandroid backups for every ROM, then everything is perfect, but I still wanted to know about NEW ROMs. Once again, thanks for all the suggestions.
