I downloaded VISIONary to root the phone so I can use Barnacle wifi tethering.... it works great you can also use one click root...

Good tip with the VISIONary app. I snagged it and am now rooted too...didn't even have to reboot for it to start working. It was very easy to do.

could someone throw up a link to download the r9 version of VISIONary? I can't seem to find it anywhere

You can get r9 off AppBrain.com but ... it says it's for Android 2.2, not 2.1.

Were you able to successfully use it with Android 2.1? I tried an earlier APK I was able to find on the web but it ended up maxxing my CPU at 100% and no root access.

If you have a version that works with Android 2.1 could you up it somewhere?

I got VISIONary r9 but it wont run on 2.1.5

We might be able to use R5 which is the one need specifically so i can have reboot into root.

I snagged VISIONary off appbrain and then sent it to my phone running 2.1.5. I had to run it twice to get the superuser app and all to install -- nothing happened after the first time. I did not even have to reboot and it was working properly and barnacle is working very smoothly.

I'm not sure if it's kosher to post the file or not, but this is the apk i used Download com.modaco.visionary.apk from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way

Yeah that version does seem to do the trick. Astro is telling me its verision R3. Now if i could just get one that roots on reboot everything would be great.

Can one delete the "safe" bloatware? Tried with astro...wont happen

Since you guys were having trouble using VISIONary, you may want to try a windows program called SuperOneClick. It worked for my cliq when I updated to MotoBlur 2.0.26. Here is a mediafire link I was able to find for anyone interested.

I don't know if this has anything to do with the app itself, but after using it, my phone has been running it's CPU at 100% at all times, the boot sequence is off, and my phone has been running REALLY hot. Does anybody know of a solution? I uninstalled the app itself, and I don't know for sure if I'm rooted or not, so I couldn't tell if I would be able to run a new ROM.
EDIT: should mention I used the Visionary r3 from the download link in this thread.

You need a "root enabled" file manager like supermanager or root explorer to modify system files/apps.

DL z4root...its a free app on the market. Only works for 2.x os. I heard it works good. People are reporting 20-30 secs to gain root.

It worked for me on my Moto Cliq with the latest 2.1 firmware. Had to do VISIONary three times before I got Superuser though.
