Strange request: Dumbing down my smartphone -disabling touch

Either from under or over charging my cliq now has a huge dead area in the middle of the screen, not enough to make it unusable but enough to make it extremely annoying. in addition to the dead spot that seems to be getting larger the screen also ghost clicks opening progs and calling folks (not good ). is there anyway to disable the touch functionality in android 2.1 and just use the keyboard which still works fine?
once I get my new phone id like to turn the click into a media player so touch...not so important?

So basically you have a dead pixel in your screen? You can download screen tester from Market to confirm if this is true and may need a new screen replacement either 3rd party repairs or warranty under Moto. If the screen tester app confirms that you don't have a dead pixel then reformat your phone through recovery and install your prefered ROM. Hope this somewhat helped.

Doing this right now, up to the red/green cube cant cross the screen lol will wonder if this thing still has warranty, if not ill still try to kill the screen and just have a multimedia player albeit an expensive one lol thanks tho

No I just left the phone on the PC to charge (accidentally overnight and now the center of the screen is wonky I dont think its completely dead but the mapping seems wrong. the response is slightly left of the area touch.
