My DEXT wonīt turn on!!!
Hi there
Just yesterday i discovered my DEXT had turned itself off and then when i tried turning it on it would not boot. I took the battery out and placed it back in and pressed the power button. The notification light came on and the phone had a small vibration but nothing displayed on the screen and then about 10 seconds later the notication light turns off and the screen still remains blank.
At this point the battery had 50% charge so i tried charging the phone. Because i recently rooted it with the Cyanogen RC7.1 ROM the notification light is meant to come on permanantly when charging but when i plugged in the phone to charge, the notification night doesnīt come on.
I tried booting into clockwork orange recovery but the screen still remains blank. Most of the time i have to replace the battery to even get the power button working before the phone dies out again after 10 seconds as described above.
Does anyone know whats wrong? it was working perfectly fine before this.
Thanks all for your help.

Are you using the wall charger? Not really sure what could've went wrong but maybe your phone just died (as in - for good). Was it dropped in water at some point? Can you boot into 'USB Fastboot INIT' screen? Does RSD Lite Detect your phone?

Um yeah iīm charging it in the wall charger and its not turning on. Iīm actually travelling around Europe atm and do not have access to properly check if RD lite detects it.
But i didn't drop my phone in water so i thought maybe the battery may be dead, but the fact that i canīt turn the phone on even when plugged into a wall charger leaves me to believe that the phone itself might be dead.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks heaps

I may be way off base but aren't there places in Europe that use different voltages than North America. Maybe fried something when plugged into wall socket with a different voltage than 115/120....grasping at straws here...

jethro650 - yes European outlets are 220v while US is only 110v. But if that's the case he would be using a Dext which should be a 220v plug. And the title says he has a DEXT so he should be fine. (Sorry I lived in Germany for 12yrs
)
But not sure what could be the problem with your Dext. Just hope you figure things out when you have access to your PC and see if RSD recognizes it.

Is it possible to boot the phone without a battery?

It should.. when it was still on cupcake it would turn on w/o the battery in it. Doesn't hurt to try.

Well I just got back from my holiday. Trying to fix my phone. Does anyone know how to properly use RSDLite? Just plug my phone in and open up RSD Lite? Should my phone just show up on the list?
I also tried using Command Prompt and tried ADB Devices and it comes up with nothing under list of devices attached.
I know my computer is set up properly because i used it to root my phone 7 weeks ago and that worked fine.
Cheers

Be sure you have RSD Lite 4.5.7 (recommended) or better and have Moto USB Drivers installed on your PC.
Unplug the phone, pull battery out for 10secs, put battery back in.
Press and HOLD Menu (4 squares button) then Power it on while Holding the menu button.
The Phones screen should turn Blue with words 'Bootloader USB Init' on the bottom.
That is the screen you need to flash a firmware using RSD.
Turn on RSD Lite and plug the phone in.
Find the firmware you want to use using RSD (there will be a [...] so you can search the files.) And click Start. Its important that nothing happens when flashing RSD. The battery doesn't fall out or the cable doesn't come off or even the phone falls off the table, couch, bed..etc...just be sure its a solid connection while its flashing.
Wait for it to boot up to the SetUp Menu and you can safely disconnect your phone.
Oh ya: Be sure you choose the firmware for your carrier or you will loose 3G data. If you can't find one then look for my "[UN-BRICK] Testers Needed" thread. Read the post and, if you want to, then try it.

'adb devices' is telling you it can't detect your phone, and RSD won't either (you have no way to switch to usb mode). The burnt smell you describe indicates something in the power circuit died; you'll need to replace your phone, I'm afraid. You might find a smashed-up phone on ebay & swap out the offending board, if you're into that sort of thing.
There's a chance your charger is defective - overvoltage to the phone could cause the failure also. You may want to replace it as well, to be on the safe side. AC supply is not the issue, cell phone chargers are autoranging 90-240VAC, 50/60 Hz.Last edited by Saurus; 08-11-2011 at 08:32 AM.
