Solution [IMAGE] [v0.2d][13-09-2010] MotoBlur for Milestone

I have now more success with the Froyo 2.2 MotoBlur(Milestone 2) port to milestone but it required a more technical approach than just lib replacements here..

Most features seen in MotoFrenzy is also shared here. both good and bad ones. Battery wise this image offers utilities to manage wifi inactivity and battery training policies.

I feel that the features found in the MotoBlur, justify a more proper release, than initially, as Battery management and scalable widgets seems like nice features to me.

You can also follow updates on Twitter now: Dexter Picard (DexterPicard) on Twitter or you can visit my new homepage at Dexter's mods

All download will now be found on my homepage Dexter's mods . as this makes updating much faster, and i dont want to spend that much time managing forum updates...

    Full Image install instructions
You can use G.O.T recovery for installation of the image or OpenRecovery 1.04 or 1.37+
Copy the included MotoBlur folder onto your sdcard
into the folder /nandroid/adbrecovery and recover from
    G.O.T Recovery menu.
    First time install information
    - You can register with MotoBlur (Motorola) to activate additional mailing account features.
or press "menu" + "skip setup" to skip.
    - SetupWizard might restart, please press "home" button to close, after skip or account setup.
    - G.O.T recovery should offer you the option to partition your SDCARD if you
wish to use a ext2 partition for apps2sd functionality.
    - Newest Overclock v1.4 included, default enabled at 550Mhz,
but you can take the sample "overclock" file from the .zip and copy to your SDCARD, and customize from bootup. you can modify content of the overclock file, but you need to find details on parameters on the authors webpage here.

    Changelog
    v0.2d
    - native apps2sd support in settings, so now you can move apps to sdcard.
    v0.2c

    - Other phone functions.
    - GPS is working now.

    - Apps included (SetCpu , toggledata, Superuser)

    v0.1a

    - fixed SMS reception repeater, now only one instance occur of each sms.
    - Internet media / Youtube playback problem, fixed.
    - Removed emergency alert app, (US CDMA Users only)

Current state of this release is:
    Issues
Partly based on milestone 2 release version.
Fully deodex'd rom (requires little more memory, but is sufficient in Motorola phone environment)
    * It should noted, that Milestone 2 comes with 512MB RAM, which might for more hours become an issue on milestone, if froyo2.2 memory management handles this badly.
    Working
    MotoBlur Froyo2.2 functionality fully working.
    apps2sd native froyo function.
Languages supported (enabled) Dutch, English , Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portugese
Data icons fixed (E/G/3G/H) is now shown.
    Phone calls / Mobile data
    Picture editor works.
    Market fully working
    Regular Wifi working
Bluetooth with advanced stereo functionality working.
Audio/Video playback of MPEG4,MP3, OGG etc..
Wifi DLNA supported (only picture sharing still seems working)
Overclock v1.4 app + module included. (overclock file on sdcard as option to customize settings)
File copying over Wifi between windows machines possible. (have seen problem copying to local phone though)
APPS2SD ext2 edition (not native function though)
Phone can be used without a sim card.
    Not working/tested
AP Wifi (not working). (Teether app included for now)
    Camera/VideoRecorder (Focus problem)
USB (auto detect problems, hotfix will be released when working.)
    BlockBuster DRM movie viewing
Backup services (work only with a valid Verizon sim-card)
    apps removed

    MyVerizon
    CityID
Boot animation (took 4MB of system space, added QuickOffice instead)
    BlockBuster application
Firewall service (missing libs in original stock firmware, might be on purpose it's removed)
    2.1 kernel limitations
As with the other 2.2 releases, these functions are limited due to missing kernel upgrades on our milestone.
Full RIL support cannot be implemented as driver is officially not available.
    Camera kernel requirements for focus.
    Swap? (we could only hope)

Bugs certainly exists, as this image has many builtin functions, so if you find any, report them here, and ill look at it.

hey dexter you seem to be able to port ROMs pretty easily nowadays, between the motoblur/motosense/motoincred/motofrenzy you see to have a lot of experience in being able to do this. Do you think that when you find some time you could outline and detail the process of converting a stock rom into a milestone compatible rom including every little tool/trick/step you use to get something somewhat compatible. I think the community in general would benefit from this knowledge being documented.

In the beginning it was all just a "cut&paste" as DAGr8 so nicely put it, and it worked out really great..
with a combination of shell scripts to make things work.

But with the changes in MotoSense and in this Blur edition, i had to update the code in the binaries to make them run..
So it has become a lot more complex over the weeks..
You can call it coding, if you feel modifying the smali files is code (semi basic javacode at least).

But writing a doc on how to do it, is to begin with just as i mention in the first line.. and some debugging knowledge and the understanding on how libs are linked together.

yes its 2.2, but thats likely not gonna happen with a droid2 firmware. we need a milestone firmware for that to work.

anyways this might not be released, as it got 2 major issues right now.
altough wifi, gps, mobile etc.. it all seems to work as in Frenzy, and Camera has no focus (still being a kernel issue), but zoom works kinda (3x,5x digital)
the problem is the firmware has 1 problem, 1 when the screen shuts off in standby, it cannot wakeup, and this is followed like 30-60 seconds after with a restart of froyo (not the phone) so its kinda useless right onw.

But at least i got a preview of MotoBlur but so far im not impressed, but i like the extras in the settings.

i forgot to mention, that a MAJOR IMPORTANT part of the droid2 firmware release is missing... the BOOT.img is not included, so i have no clues to how it should bootup, it might actually be why it cannot enable keyboard again...or different users rights, as the "init" process assigns different uid's or simply the fact boot is doing something extra..
So if anyone can get hold of it, i need the boot.img file of droid2 (and please a the latest one seen with 2.2.90 release)

    ************************************************** ********
    Update,
Its working now, and its stable.

Even the camera zoom function works quite ok, but it still has the focus problem, but i dont see the same function as on droid, so i might be able to load the calibration data into this camera and make it work.
There is some strange problem with 720P recording but it looks to be working.

so i might release this later on, for people to experience the sad motoblur, as its really not that impressive at all.. HTC Sense is really much cooler, if we talk design and speed (im only using 550mhz here with blur though)

    Just so you know...

i dropped this firmware.. camera was all messed up somehow, so it worked and it didnt..
and in general it was simply too slow on this phone compared to the other images.. it seems MotoBlur is too buggy for a good phone like ours..

i will leave Droid2 alone for now.. not worth porting..
and no, its not the way i did it, graphics and use of menus in launcher in general should not halt and delay many, many times..
and the fact that many strange debug features exists within the framework and in the build.prop and something like events setttings to be optimized later on that makes this 2.2.90 a bad beta release, and i will not try and port this..

updated post #1, with the actual mod, i got to so far... some people might find the image useful for continued modding..

    It does work though.

But there is indeed something really wrong even when overclocked to 1,2Ghz it is still pretty slow, I tried Linpak and I got 0.75Mflops

I like the way on how you can resize all the widgets though.

It's a different look than Sense but not all that bad, for now a bit unuseable because the phone really gets hot so it is doing something in the background to slow the phone down.
