New SBF - to flash only the vulnerable recovery
Contains only the vulnerable recovery (CG47) from SHOLS_U2_01.14.0.
Made with SBF Recalc and hexedit.
Tested.
To make an "unrootable" firmware (2.1, Telus and others) rootable.
NEW: updated with RAMDLD 90.78: vulnerable_recovery_only_RAMDLD90_78.zip
UPDATE: By the initial testing, the phones that come with the 90.78 Bootloader won't let you flash any SBF that contains an older RAMDLD (90.73, 90.74).
On the other hand, there is no problem to flash a SBF containing the new 90.78 RAMDLD on phones with the older Bootloader.
So the new recovery only SBF can be flashed on a phone with any common bootloader.
After you flash this SBF, you will be able to use the conventional update.zip method to root, preferably by using the excellent OpenRecovery.
Possible issues you may encounter:
1. If the RSD lite does not activate the Start button after you open the SBF file, you need to rename the SBF file to some simple short name, eg. recovery.sbf, and to put it to some simple short path, e.g C:\recovery.sbf (known Windows Vista / 7 issue).
2. "E:EOCD marker occurs after start of EOCD E:signature verification failed" error after you apply the update.zip in recovery means that you do not have the vulnerable recovery on your phone.
If you applied an OTA update before, there is a script run at every system boot that checks and re-flashes the recovery when its checksum doesn't match. In such case, you have to avoid booting to android after the vulnerable recovery flash. Boot directly to recovery when RSD Lite restarts the phone (hold camera button) and from there remove the /system/etc/install-recovery.sh file.
A script for OpenRecovery is attached (install OpenRecovery and put the script to /sdcard/OpenRecovery/scripts before you flash the vulnerable recovery).Code:rm -f /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
Later in OpenRecovery, the first thing you should do is to run this script from the Run Script menu.Last edited by nadlabak; 08-27-2010 at 04:26 AM. Reason: added information about recovery checking caused by OTA

That's for confirming that. So now hopefully Bootloader 90.78 will accept that.

Hello guys! And a BIG FLAPPY _THANK_YOU_ for everyone working hard on the projects.
I'm new to milestone, I have the Vodafone DE branded version and I'm currently running 2.0.1 rooted.
After seeing this thread I've figured that now one may download the 2.1 milestone firmware (europe for me), download and install the RSDLite4.6, flash the 2.1 firmware then .... _flash_ this recovery SBF (?!) for the OS to become rooted / rootable again ..
Please correct me if i'm wrong
and IF I AM wrong, please tell me that i can go back to 2.0.1 if i have to ( ex. no rootable options for 2.1 firmware yet), cause i'm about to start the 2.1 update in 7-10 minutes.
Cheers, and THANK YOU!

Replace the /system/usr/keychars/sholesp2a-keypad.kcm.bin with the one extracted from this zip: http://www.mediafire.com/?rzmnh3ozmdg

Thanks for this rootable patch! I still have a question of how to flash
because i bricked my last phone while flashing
im running 2.0.1 on my Italien based Milestone, got i from the official OTA update
and did not root it.
So now i can download the EU 2.1 sbf from http://and-developers.com/motorola_milestone:sbf and flash with RDS. And after i need to flash it again with the open recovery (CG47) from SHOLS_U2_01.14.0.?
And what can i do with the Bootloader 90.78?
Hope it's not many questions im asking, kinda new here and registred 2day!
Thanks in advance!

The newly released phones will come with Bootloader 90.78 preinstalled. At this time, no one knows for sure, what good or bad will the 90.78 version bring us.And what can i do with the Bootloader 90.78?

btw can i use the open recovery (CG47) from SHOLS_U2_01.14.0. to flash my 2.1 if i got my update by OTA and not with the SHOLS_U2_02.31.0_UCASHLSMR2EMEAB1B805C.0R_PDS003_U SASHLS00RTEU_P042_A005_HWp2a_1FF.sbf by RDS Lite?

Hi guys, i just came from the MP3 skipping bug thread at Motorola Support website, and some people reporterd a NEW bug in the 2.1 update!!!! :S
My Milestone is from Hong Kong and 2.1 was offically released yesterday over here using the USB Motorola Update.... BUT HOLD there is another Mp3 bug! Even though the skipping problem is now solved... but now when you unplug the 3.5mm from your phone, the mp3 music player will automatically start playing in your speaker... it has happened to me a couple of times already,,,, and I know a couple of people (from the forum here in Hong Kong) that is happening to them also after the 2.1 update.... One annoying Mp3 problem after another... HELP!

This is Off Topic. Nevertheless, this new bug is much less severe than the audio drop-outs. And I haven't experienced this new bug yet... On the contrary, I'm very happy that when the music is playing through the headphones and I accidentally pull out the headphone jack, the music stops and does not continue playing from the speaker on my 2.1 system.
Please, back on topic now.

ok cool we'll see who has the bug and who doesnt

but i was wondering, if i have flashed my phone with the 2.1 sbf
and after flash again with the open recovery (CG47) from SHOLS_U2_01.14.0.
is my phone 2.1 rooted after? Or do i still have to add the root?
