When you type in su pay attention to your phone. It should ask you if you want to grant super user permissions. Do you have USB debugging enabled?

If you're doing this from your phone in terminal you don't need to do adb shell, should be/look like this
    $ su
    # cd /sdcard
    # flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
    #exit
    $exit

If you're still having trouble try rom manager, it does it all for you.

Well either way he has to make sure his phone is granting super user permission whether in adb or using a terminal emulator.

Another option you can use I the following...
    Go into gscript mod
    Press menu button choose add
For name I put Flash Recovery
Click next then in next line put in...
    flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.Ingram
Then save and make sure you have needs such checked... then you just make sure the recovery using the sdcard folder named recovery.img

Thanks for the new recovery! (: Successful and all. I started stressing because I hit the power button and it wouldn't reboot, but I realized the new button is home LOL.

    Thanks again.

Did you make sure the file was copied to the root directory of the sd card? Also try removing ".img" from the file name, but run the same commands because windows sometimes hides file extensions.

I get that error message too; ignore it, it doesn't affect you.

Anyway, you forgot to push it to sdcard. Copy and adb push it to the sdcard and rename it was recovery.img, then do those steps^
