Try backing up contacts to your sim card before wiping.

ATT didnt remove any of the Google apps. When I ran 1.5/1.6/2.1 my Google account synced up just fine. The phone asks you sign into it upon first boot just like it does with Motoblur. It sounds like you synced your contacts with your Motoblur account, which youre not going to find in the CyanogenMod roms.
There probably wont be a file containing your contacts, unless they were unsynced and stored on the phone itself.. That information is all stored on Google/Motorola's servers and populates your phone after you sign in the first time. Sounds like you need to reflash ATT's 2.1 and somehow export your contacts out of Motoblur and into Google.. Although by hand might be the only way to do it..
As for Titanium.. All it does is backup apps and the applications data. It doesnt back up the system or user data as far as I remember.. I switched to MyBackupRoot a couple months back, which DOES allow you to back up your text messages/media/etc and other data like that as well as the applications..

How did you manage to get them to end your contract early? Did you still have to pay early termination fees? I've been thinking about ending my contract but don't want to pay the termination fee. I do have some overheating issues with my BF and could easily restore it to factory settings if I have to send it back. What could I say to them to let me end it early?

Yeah Im curious about that too.. For some reason, for the first time in 10 years, ATT tells me I am not eligible for an upgrade until April, yet my contract ends in March, and seriously I have NEVER gone through my whole contract once, Ive always gotten a new phone early.. I even called and asked about it but the idiot on the phone was no help at all.. I was getting ready to just terminate my contract and get an HTC Droid Incredible since I found out I dont need a credit deposit at Verizon (and their Android selection is a hell of a lot better) but I still have the old unlimited data plan with ATT and man I really want that Samsung Galaxy S 2 if I can get it!!!!!

he said he got att to allow an upgrade 3 months early, that doesn't equal releasing you from contract. in fact that gets him under contract for atleast 2 more years. i did the same thing a few years ago, had to get manager approval based on my service history w/ them, blah blah blah, but i wound up w/ basically a 3 year contract. and about your change in when they tell you that you can upgrade, att had been changing a lot of their policies. they have also recently gotten rid of a big chunk of how much of a discount you used to get based on number of years w/ their service. so pretty much there's no real incentive to actually stick with your said cell phone provider when any company will subsidize whichever phone you want.

Okay, I'm going to give you a crash course in Titanium Backup App. Firstly, it does NOT back up your contacts (at least not directly).
Titanium backup is designed for backing up your PROGRAMS on your android phone and their associated user data. This means if you have 30 programs it will back up their apk file and any associated user data, and you can restore this to this or another phone in order to continue using the app as it was when you backed it up.
You can back up 1 app or 30 apps, but this does not back up the ROM on your phone (hence the need for nand backups). You should also know that you should not restore any SYSTEM apps on a different android version. For example, you are going from 2.1 motoblur to the nightly 2.3.4 or 2.3.7, which means that you should never restore SYSTEM apps to this new rom. You can however restore USER apps (like games, web browsers, 3rd party applications).
If Titanium Backup did backup your contacts, it would back them up as data for the "Contacts" program on your original Rom. Because you are going from one android to another (Eclair to Gingerbread) you cannot restore this program as it will not work in Gingerbread. Restoring the data only will likely cause more harm than good.
Solution: The only way to save your contacts is to export them to your SIM card and them import them once you install the new Rom, or get a program that backs up and restores contacts as .csv files (Comma_Seperated Values). Either of these two methods mentioned will allow you to backup your contacts to your SD Card and restore them (after installing the app on your new rom) on your freshly installed Gingerbread.
So, I know I'm digging up an old topic, but my backflip does this too. I've noticed it's because it overheats. I used to sleep with the phone under my pillow charging, but it started to crash. When I get up in the morning after a crash the phone is like an oven and it has 0% charge. The only fix is to wait for it to cool off unplugged and then charge it again, especially on a cold surface (bag of ice). This only happens once in a while, but I think it's a serious design flaw that shows up after a battery starts to show its age.
I have found the Stable rom to be anything but. I was hoping before the build-bots went offline that there would be a new stable for the backflip, but we never got to see it. The Stable version, at least for me, has all the problems you'd expect of a nightly. While the nightly builds tend to be really stable. I've had issues with short battery life, lagging, unusual performance, bluetooth problems (lots) and other quirks on the Stable release. #56 seems to be a VERY good daily driver, as I am most of the community are using this version with few issues.
If someone is having problems that others are not, try installing the rom after a factory reset in recovery AND a /system format. Note though that you cannot let the system reboot after formatting system without installing a rom or you will have a nice paperweight, recovery not included. Why would you take the risk? Because with nand backup you can restore the phone if your .zip won't install and you eliminate the source of a lot of problems in the typical flash process, leftovers from the old rom remaining in the /System partition.
If you can't restore a nand backup that you just made with recovery before formatting system and trying to install the .zip, then you have more problems than an empty /system partition. (Like nand read/write failures or other hardware failures).Last edited by arcanewulf; 01-25-2012 at 06:23 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

How has nightly 56 been for everyone? I've been having some application corruption/memory corruption issuess and the backflip hibernating (wont wake up without battery pull) issues.

How's the latest CM build running for y'all? I'm just wondering because if it runs well, I'll update the version on my brother's phone (jesus, it's been too long since I've been on here)

Closed-source backflip? What closed-source Backflip?

I'm running the stable release but experienced the same thing when I had nightly 56 installed. What's with that hibernation thing, by the way? Anyone know? When I reboot my phone, I have to keep it awake for close to 10 minutes, manually. If I don't keep it active in some way, when I go to use it it will be deader than a door nail and require a battery pull to get going again. These days I usually just open up the Market and start an update or just browse with it.
Phone: Motorola Backflip
ROM: CyanogenMod 7.1
Recovery: ClockworkMod 5.0.2.6
Thanks, Jr0dd!

I just compiled the latest CM7 code for Backflip, for anyone who wants a more up to date build. Just so you know, this build is untested, as I don't own a backflip. Proceed at your own risk. Just make a nandroid and you should be safe in case any kind of failure arises.
You can download it here:

Enjoy!

@turl Is it safe to flash without wiping data? guess I'll find out...
yep. works just fine.
Also I'm getting 3G speeds of 3 mbps and it's 2 pm. Normally I only get that at midnight. But AT&T probably just upgraded the towers or something.Last edited by bconover93; 01-27-2012 at 01:11 PM.

ive flashed it as well it was laggy at first but later on after a couple minutes it was considerably much faster than nightly 56 but it kept force closing on random applications and randomly rebooting so i did a fix permissions and all is well for now.
