Can anyone tell me what happened? How can I go from rooted to unrooted by just turning it off and on once? Now I can't get the # back with rageagainstthecage...weird.

After you reboot you'll need to run su to get back to root unless you make other changes to make adb run as root.

The first time you run su you'll need to accept it on the screen of the phone.

Have you rooted your phone yet? If so, after typing `adb shell` use the command `su`
Also, yes, you have to be in the platform-tools folder of the android sdk UNLESS you add both the tools and platform-tools folders to your PATH variable.
