I have two questions.

1. What do you do if you cannot boot into recovery. it just hangs on the white screen with the M and when you hold the camera button and press the volume keys it either hangs on the VOLUME UP KEY PRESSED or hangs on the blue screen if you select the other option. I think I bricked my backflip lol.

2. to those that modified the droid 2 root to get this to work, how do you determine which mtdblock or mmcblk file to choose? I have a device I would like to try this on that has mmcblk type setup, i tried mmcblk1,0,1p21,0p1, etc. none of them seem to work. The phone seems to be functioning fine still, but I cannot get root access to stick.

I'm not sure about your exact problem but earlier mine was hanging on the white screen with the big M, i was able to connect to the phone via ADB and flash a working recovery imaage ( i had the one that didn't work) and restore my original nandroid backup (made with cliq recovery). So maybe there is hope.

I get Operation not permitted when trying to Chmod on the phone using any of the three terminal emulators.

Fixed (instructions updated), chmod from adb shell.

Thank you Skrilax, after about a day and a half I finally got root. :] Hope we get some custom roms here soon, everyone who helped make this happen, good job, really. :]

GOD YES ! I reROOT again, but older step-to-step does not work anymore for me dunno why... i must do it under the new one.

Can someone tell me what cliq rom I can use to install on this? I'd like to try it on the backflip, and let everyone know how it goes. I have a nand backup so I can just go back if something goes wrong, right?

...Wow.. I feel semi stupid for at least not trying that myself. Will do so on my break today, hopefuly this works. Will i be able to rid the phone of the ATT branded apps on my phone with the root? Use Barnacle Wifi tether etc?

update: Working root, superuser requests are possible but cannot yet remove ATT bloatware/ use wifi tether yet.

Yeah I wish CyanogenMod worked for us. Maybe if we start sending some donations his way...

- Download attached archive
- Extract to a directory, I used c:Moto_MSM_Root
- Make sure you have USB degugging enabled
- Change connection to PC Mode

Process:
- Open command prompt
- cd c:wherever-your-sdk-tools-folder-is
- adb devices (to verify the connection)
- adb push c:Moto_MSM_RootSuperuser.apk /sdcard/Superuser.apk
- adb push c:Moto_MSM_Rootsu /sdcard/su
- adb push c:Moto_MSM_Rootrageagainstthecage-arm5.bin /data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
- adb push c:Moto_MSM_Rootinstall-root.sh /data/local/tmp/install-root.sh
