You should be at $ at that step. The # doesn't come until after running rage. chmod should be working. Try restarting your phone.

right i am at $ on that step i change directory with
cd data/local/tmp then goes to $ i type in 'chmod 0755 rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin' and it give me an error says access is denied?

If your still having issue. Try opening the Superuser app on the phone. I had most of my problems due to the app not loading properly (hangs at a black screen, had to remove batt to reset). To over come this I downloaded a new Copy of ChainsDD's Superuser from xda-dev.

Yes type in adb on the pc then move to terminal on the phone

where is the {data/local/tmp** folder located after i do the cmd,,, on the phone or pc or is it hidden.i just cant get root.i have cliq xt with 1.32.16 update from motorola.is that a prob.when you the emul like connect bot what option do you use /ssh,telnet or local and what then please help

What command are you using? you shouldd be doing adb push from the command prompt. not exactly sure why you would get that.

Same here. Permission denied. Running command prompt as admin. Running WINXP, does that make a difference though?? Noticed that others are using Vista/7.

Try moving the files into the tools directory of your SDK folder. should fix the issue. the run the process with out the cd c:\Moto_MSM_root command

When that happened to me it was because the SD card was mounted to PC transfer, making it unaccessible to the phone. Set it to "charge only".

load adb shell and enter su if the phone prompts to allow Superuser rights your done otherwise you will need to re-run the rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin part again in the terminal on the phone a follow the process from there
