Troubleshooting May Seem Like Root, But The Backflip Isnt Fully Rooted Until.....

The Android Web Browser allows installation of APK's, My USA ATT Backflip is fully rooted with custom recovery image.

    The Dilema...

Trying to install non market apps through the web browser gives me the security message from hell when i try to install from the web, i figured that all would be fixed after root....

Anybody have a fix for this, or is this hardwired and no work around???

Not looking to use any market apps or adb pushes, life should be much simpler lol

There isn't currently a way around this. Several people have tried modifying the usual suspsects, but even after the changes, the phone still will not allow non-market apps to be directly installed on the phone. This will probably require a custom ROM to resolve.

Not true, we have full root. We just have a functional limitation which we have not found a way to fix using our root access. Yet.

There is a way around it. Let me get my repo synced against moto and I will find the code that needs the mod. But I suspect that it will require a recompile which means a new rom. And No we do not have full root.... Try to access the bootloader and boot into something else (you can't). We have shell root which is like having full root but the difference is the shell can not change the boot env. This is the reason why kernel hackers are hard at work making a rom that will boot from the bootloaders default env. It is similar to your desktop computer in that on boot you can change the path to boot from, because you are not locked out of the bios. But on moto android (as well as most phones) you can not change the boot vector because it is locked. An example would be change boot from NAND 0x00 to MMC0:1 0x10 (not exactly the format but you get the picture (see das uboot for more details))... Maybe I am not well read on this but AFAIK all moto phones suffer from this and all have different attacks on the boot process either successful or not.

Is exactly the attempt to fix the issue, however there is something lurking in the shadows of either the motorola hardware or software that still prevents the option to install from untrusted sources.

Root is boolean, there is no 'full root vs half root'.

    what worked??
wondering ur menaing you got a backflip rooted.
Or if you are able to install non market apps on at&t service.
I have a backflip, and want to root & install a custom rom, and obviously I'd always want a method or option to install any apk from where ever I choose.
Funny I just upgraded one of my lines to a Captivate, same day found "1-click root" apps via market(only place can install from), and also a "1-Click Sim UnLock" app, also on the market.
Carrier unlocked & rooted my Samsung captivate all in about 15 min. BUT I STILL CAN NOT INSTALL NON MARKET APPS!!!
    What gives, LOL.
Anyones help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. and if i have success i will post the details for anyone else on the same search i am on. LOL
Thanks to all in Advance for any help &/or support.

if you want to install non market apps on the backflip go in to the development section on this site and it will tell you how to get the box to check and then you can download and install straight from your phone... if you want to do it on your captivate i think there is a way posted at attdroids.com go check it out

I know your looking for something that is not an ADB push, but this method works! If you want to install non-market apps this is the way to go. Besides you had to do a ADB push to root the phone in the first place
