2.1 Delayed ... Again
As of today, the "Motorola Android Software Upgrade News" web page (https://supportforums.motorola.com/c...ftwareupgrades) went from listing the 2.1 update as being released in Q3 to "Upgrade to Android 2.1 - testing in process, planned for late Q3/early Q4". That is, if you live in the USA. If you live anywhere else, they listed an update as being under consideration (or language to that effect). Now they want you permanently stuck at 1.5!
Mildly annoying for the USA, major disappointment for everyone else!

My 2 cents, does this have anything to do with att or motolola not wanting the backflop hacked further?

I have no idea. If they release updates, they could patch holes used to root the phones. But then again, new holes could be found and the newer software would then be rooted. Of course, if they finally release 2.1 for the Backflip in the USA, some ingenious coder might use it to make a custom ROM that could be distributed to people in other countries who wanted it. So, I guess in essence, anyone who cares about updated software should eventually have access to it.
All this being said, I'm not sure anyone should pay any attention to me!
I'm pretty new to phone modding/rooting, and just rooted my Backflip this morning! I'm looking forward to installing some spiffy new software.

This isn't really news. They've said for a couple of weeks now that the upgrade would be released late Q3 or early Q4. They just hadn't actually updated that tracking page.

HW spec is the same, but Motorola dont give update to anywhere else, because they have massive support from carrier like AT&T, in America if you promise something and dont do it, then customer is able to sue Motorola and Win, but everywhere in Europe even Court will not solve this kind of senseless action...

reason for delay was to wait for milestone 2.2 release to complete, and maybe a little to do with recent backflip root. does anyone know if backflip 2.2 update will include google search(something root hasnt accomplished yet).

The Backflip is not getting 2.2 its getting 2.1..
As it is, it seems like Moto is already getting ready to drop the phone.
I wouldnt hold my breath for any updates after 2.1 if we even finally get that one.. I know 2.2 was made with the lower end hardware in mind but if Moto's got no money coming from AT&T theyre not going to do anything beyond what theyve already been paid to develop. Besides Im sure theres some new Droid 3x coming out that they would rather work on and AT&T just wishes everyone would conform and buy an iPhone..

*Sigh* I'm anticipating disappointment. Pardon my lack of knowledge on the topic, but once the 2.1 update is applied, will I still have j_r0dd's loader? I ask because if 2.1 turns my phone back into AT&T boatware-ridden junk, then I'll want to restore my backup and be back where I am today.

It is unknown at this time how the upgrade to 2.1 will affect root. It should be possible unless Motorola takes steps with the upgrade to block the current methods of rooting the Backflip.

I dont think Motorola isnt going to roll out the update:
Motorola BACKFLIP - MOTOBLUR - Android phone - Tech Specs - Motorola Australia
If you spot it,before it used to say "upgradable to 2.1" now it says Android Operating System. Dont we feel scammed or what? feel like taking action against Motorola.

That's on the Austrailian site. Motorola BACKFLIP - MOTOBLUR - Android phone - Tech Specs - Motorola USA (US) still shows upgradeable to 2.1.
