Is it necessary to repartition the SD card when restoring 1.5 (nandroid) from 2.1

Hi. I tried the 2.1 ROM and decided to go back to my nandroid backup of 1.5. I wiped everything and then repartitioned the SD card with all default settings first. Was that necessary? Doesn't the default partition scheme allow for apps2sd, which 1.5 doesn't support?

I just want to know if I need to repartition and restore that backup again before I get too comfortable.

I didn't repartition when I went back. But before I went to 2.1 I backed up the fat partition and then restored it while in recovery before I brought back the nandroid image for 1.5
