Multitouch Gestures in Google Maps 5.0
Just wondering if anyone else is having this issue. I'm on j_r0dd's preclair 1.3 with the Multitouch patch installed, but when I am in the new Google Maps and attempt to do the 2 finger downward swipe to go in to the new 3D view, it doesn't do anything at all, and the rotational gesture also does not work. The Pinch to Zoom is working fine though, so I know for a fact that MT is working properly. I tried the touch test app in Dev tools and that appears to be registering the two touches correctly when I do the same gesture there, too, so it seems like it is probably an issue on the Google Maps side of things.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling maps but that didn't help. Anyone have any luck with this (or am I the only one with this issue)?

I haven't bothered to try yet, figured our GPU wasn't strong enough, regardless of having a hacked together MT patch.

I installed the new Google Maps 5.0 on my Backflip but I got almost no new features. In the change log I think the only thing it said was offline navigation, although not offline caching of maps.
I installed Maps 5.0 on my dads Backflip and it shows all the new things in the change log that it didn't show in Backflip, such as 3D and vector maps.
I guess they don't think the Backflip can handle the features so the Backflip version doesn't get any of the new features.

I don't think the Maps application makes decisions based on your phone model. Maybe the new features are Froyo-only?

Looks like our phone isn't the only one this is happening to, a little Googling revealed that even the Nexus One is having the same issue. It looks like there is something in the Android permissions model which describes if a device has a "distinct" MT input sensor or a general MT input sensor, and it appears to only work if there is a file describing the MT sensor as being distinct.
Here's the thread with the info and the hacked XML file for the Nexus One: [Google maps 5.0] Fix - two finger rotation - xda-developers . I tried loading that file directly on my phone but it didn't work (though someone else feel free to try), so it'll probably need a little bit of modification to get working properly. I'll take a stab at hacking something together tonight when I get home from work and let you all know what I come up with.
Basically it seems to be whether the phone can only handle the basic gestures like Pinch to Zoom, or more detailed ones which work even when the axis on the touch points get swapped. Luckily I haven't seen any of those glitches while messing around with the Dev Tool Pointer Location app, so it might be pretty smooth sailing on our phone once that file's in place.

Would be nice to have this working, figured it was based on device since the version seems specifically for moto devices (i.e. Version 5.0.0 gmm-android-motorola, Platform: android:motorola-motus-MB300), nice to see it could just be a file we need to modify

I remember that google published a list of devices it did fully support and ones that only partially support it; ours is on neither list. I guess we're lucky it even loads lol.
I found the site:

the reason that it is not working is because the 3D feature is only for froyo users (android users with 2.2+) and we are on 2.1, it has nothing to do with the rom or the MT hardware the MT is working wonders for me but backflips are just a little outdated. as for me. i am astounded how great a backflip is for $50.
