Telus Backflip Upgrade to 2.1.
Hello,
I have successfully rooted my fone and did a backup.
I am about to to go from the stock telus 1.5 to the 2.1 using j_r0dd's but wanted to get some feedback from those who have done this already first.
A) is it running smooth?
B) any hardware problems?
B) did you have to do the italian radio img first and then j_r0dd's?
cheers,
gs

See my thread for my experience upgrading a TELUS backflip.
Its a tough process (italian Radio.zip Bricks the telus phone, then RDS is required) and seems the Italian Radio.zip does not work on the Telus network.

My girlfriend has a Telus backflip that I rooted and flashed successfully with the information from this site, I assumed when I purchased it for her that XDA would have all the information I required so thank god for the fine people here and all their work. Just a note, the Italian radio works fine with the Telus backflip, I have Gintech 1.8 deblurred on her phone right now, it works pretty well other than the occasional freeze or sluggishness.

I have actually managed to root and flash j_r0dd's quite smoothly. I had no problems with the Italian radio.img installation? I haven't made up my mind yet regarding whether this 2.1preclair ROM is a keeper or not. Need to play with it for a bit longer. Anyways, I don't have any special advice to give you other than to follow the guide step-by-step. In-between-wiping seems to be very helpful as go through the steps. I do the following steps, assuming phone is properly rooted of course; 1)copy j_r0dd's restore.img, Italian Radio.zip and your zipped rom of choice to the SD card.2)Once in J's recovery mode I did a 'wipe-all'/SD flash italian zip/'wipe-all' again/then SD Flash your rom of choice.zip. reboot, wait for the silly mascot to go away and it should boot. If it doesnt work first time try it again. As far as I am aware, and I will need to confirm with someone more knowledgeable, once you have the Italian Radio, no matter how bad things are you should be able to flash the Italian firmware SBF files, using RSD.

I wish I hadn't just updated my girlfriends Telus backflip without first making the .sbf image. I just have gotten so used to the availability of the default software thanks to my Desire, Hero etc etc that I didnt think it would be an issue ><
would it be possible to make an image from the contents of this folder?

I have no idea what this would entail..Last edited by flindil; 02-22-2011 at 12:44 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

No, that is just the source code needed to build the "official" Motorola kernel for your phone. You would have to actually build it, but even then, I'm pretty sure it's just the kernel, and not the full OS.
