Unofficial thread for help on j_r0dd's [ROM] Official thread for my unofficial CM7
Hi.
As you can see in the title of the thread, it is to be used ONLY for assistance and help on the [ROM] Official thread for my unofficial CM7 so selflessly created by j_r0dd for BackFlip users.
I DO NOT claim ownership of this thread, it is made for the community to be used by the community.
This is to avoid using the official thread of the rom to ask questions on how to solve stuff.
Please feel free to ask and respond to questions about ANY issue or doubt.
Please post as much information as possible, even screenshot if possible, that way any of the guys that want to help will be more informed about the issue to be able to assist us with our questions.
No question is too stupid, that's my philosophy, If we don't ask we stay ignorant.
Again, this thread is not mine, it's for all of us.
j_r0dd, Thank you SOOOO much for all your hard work.

Does anyone know why the wifi/radio bars change from white to green?
Also, I have been holding out on asking questions (to not pollute the testing thread) about how the ext partition works in CM7. I have a 16GB/Class 10 on the way from Newegg that may be here today and would love to format it once and be done with it.
To me, it seems to be between 2 schools of thought: (1) Darktremor method of tricking the BF to think it has extended internal memory, where programs and data are installed automatically and transparently to the ext partition VS. (2) using the android menu to manually pick and choose app by app which resides in the .androidsecure folder on the regular FAT32 space. j_r0dd eluded to the fact that an ext3 or 4 partition is quicker than FAT and he uses one, but I never troubled him with more questions while he was so busy on more important stuff. Maybe with a class 10 card it won't matter enough and the whole card should just be a big FAT partition?
Cant wait to get knowledged up on this!Last edited by allgolfedout; 06-17-2011 at 09:54 AM.

This has nothing to do with the local area wifi, though, right? It changes the wifi symbol color also as a matter of consistency or something? (Sorry to be a pain).
When and why does that happen? Downloaded an app and sent an email w/gmail and the icons remained white.
Sorry, I'm like a curious little kid. It's patience that allow people like you to put up with people like me!!!

I use a 4GB Class 4 card (lack of $$$). I use the fat32 method, and the apps barely lag at all, so I would guess a class 10 card would fly.

I personally like apps2sd on an ext partition also. How does that work with CM7? I used CW Recovery to create a 512MB partition, which I agree is plenty big enough.
Interestingly, CM7 menu->settings->storage reports 6.98GB total space and 2.42GB available space on my sd but Titanium backup reports 7.49GB total space and 2.60GB free. Root explorer shows 4.55GB used and 2.42GB free which amounts to the exact same numbers as the system settings reports. Hmmm.
It looks like all the user apps I have atm are located in /data/app and there's nothing but an empty lost+found folder in /sd-ext.
So, how do you put apps in the /sd-ext folder?

Kudos to j_r0dd!! The one major thing that I can't get working is the Voice Control. Every time I try this it quickly returns no matches found or a small garbled word. Last time I did a full wipe I was going from cm6 to j_r0dd's cm7 test 6; I'm currently on cm7 test 12. Any ideas?

Modded DT's Apps2SD for j_r0dd's CM7
In case anyone's interested, here is DT, modded SPECIFICALLY for j_r0dd's CM7 build, and yes, it works on ALL test builds.
This will make it so all user apps (NOT system apps) will install to the sd-ext partition on your sdcard.
AFTER gapps has been installed AND the system has booted, reboot into recovery to flash this - YOU CANNOT INSTALL THIS BEFORE GAPPS OR BEFORE BOOTING FROM INSTALLING GAPPS BECAUSE IT WILL BREAK THE GAPPS INSTALLATION!! - You have been warned!!
It DOES include the GScript.apk, used for various apps2sd functions as well as a couple other nice scripts.
There is NO easy uninstall for this, so BE SURE you want to install it!
I will NOT provide uninstallation instructions! If you REALLY want to uninstall it, you can search it out on the xda forums, but let's be real, anyone who really wants to use this won't want to uninstall it anyway, lol.
Take care all!

Okay then, I installed 3201cwm.bf.img, now I do not quite understand how it works with the ROM manager. In fact, backups and all I have done more done via recovery (reboot) because at least with me the ROM image manager does not recognize or accept. Does anyone have any idea?

A howto for modded clockworkmod recovery.img file
I wanted to drop a quick note that I struggled for several days trying to get j_r0dd's CM7 flashed to my backflip. The showstopper was the older clockworkmod recovery image. On my phone I have verified that the 2.5.5 images will not flash j_r0dd's images. If you try you get an error 7 error message and the flash never happens. That is probably why j_r0dd gives the newer clockwork recovery image at the very beginning of his thread. I had some issues getting the newer image working on my backflip. I searched through posts until I found a how to message that described some possible fixes for getting a new recovery.img flashed to the backflip.
When I tried to manually flash the recovery image I got the errors listed below.
(this was copied from a post from sketch2k278 and it was the same issue I had)
Begin paste-------------------
su
# flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
failed with error: -1
error opening /sdcard/recovery.img:#
End paste--------------------
I had to do the following.
(This is from a message from pwayzprem on March 10, 2011 at 09:04 PM)
Begin paste-------------------
To get jrodd recovery v2.0. First download it and put the recovery.img in your sdcard. Download terminal emulator if you don't have it and do these commands in it and you should have jrodd's recovery.
su
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system
rm recovery.img
mount -o ro,remount /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system
exit
exit
you might get some error (said might) at command "rm recovery.img" but I got one there too and it still worked, the rest i think is not really needed. So just check if it worked by rebooting into recovery.
End paste--------------------
So basically I had to do what pwayzprem said to do, then do the flash_image recovery command and it did not give an error.
The only other issue was by manually loading the recovery.img this way the Current RomManager front end will only get you to the newly flashed recovery.img if you go into the "Reboot into Recovery" option. If you try the load image from SDCard option it ends up using the older recovery.img and it does not work.
So in a nutshell.
Get the j_r0dd modded clockworkmod file 3201cwm.bf.img
change the name of the file to recovery.img
copy the recovery.img file to the root of your sdcard on your backflip
then
open a terminal emulator on your backflip
type in the following commands
su
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system
rm recovery.img
mount -o ro,remount /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system
exit
exit
close the terminal emulator
open terminal emulator again
type in the following commands
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
exit
exit
close the terminal emulator
copy the rom file you want to flash your backflips OS to, to the sdcard on your backflip, some known location, it does not need to be at the root of the sdcard
Open up your current RomManager software and use the "Reboot into Recovery" option.
(you should notice the text color is now orange and the menu choices are a little different)
You will need to use the volume controls to scroll up and down in the list of options and the
camera key to choose those options.
choose the flash rom from sdcard option
maneuver through the file system on the sdcard to where your os rom is and click on it with the camera button.
if all goes well it will flash the new os rom to your backflip.
enjoy the new rom.
A similar process can be done to install the gapps file that j_r0dd included. You should never flash the gapps file until you have brought your backflips system up on the new OS and verified it is working. Various issues have happened to people who flashed the OS image and then immediately tried to flash the gapps image.
I hope this helps, if I have made any errors please let me know and I will try to update this to a more correct how to.
