Unfortunately I've been trying to root my friend's new XT701, bought here in China, but have ended up with a phone that gets stuck on the Moto logo.

I've flashed your sbf twice via RSDLite and both times it stuck on the msg "Please manually power up this phone", so I would pull the battery, wait 10 sec, then back into bootloader and connect to RSDLite where it gives a pass, then unplug again and reboot and blammo, stuck on Moto.

I then tried wiping the data and cache and downloading the sbf again, and flashing again, and still no joy.

Can you please advise, what should I do next, something through adb, different file to flash, anything would be very appreciated!

try this sbf : https://rsddownload.motorola.com/dow...vice1FF.sbf.gz after that boot it up and flash the sbf that i provided at the first post. Also i have noticed that if i dont manually put my phone into bootloader that i get errors, so i would make sure that you are pressing the hardware buttons on the phone to get it into bootloader then flash. Hope this works for you.

YES, that brought the phone back to life, thank you!

I then flashed your sbf and it passed without having to yank the battery as before, so that's good.

BUT I am bombing on the chown 0:0 step with a No such user '0:0' message. I've successfully changed perms on the files, but can't change owner... I've tried rebooting the phone and reloading the shell, any suggestions?

Motofrenzy is not for the xt701.. just the first Milestone.

I have successfully rooted my phone thanks to you guys.

The only thing is that for some reason I can't surf the internet.
I can connect to any wifi network- but no app is able to surf.

A thought - maybe i'm not getting an ip like i should.

System: XT701, Android 2.1-update 1.

Milestone Overclock has been updated for official XT701 support. All you overclockers should update to 1.4.1 or greater. Tested and works great on my XT701. Thanks JBoogie3 for testing these in the first place! (and thanks to Tiago for the 701 support and quick fix for us)

Thanks for the detailed step-by-step instruction. Generally it works. I have some problems after rooting:
1. The phone is not detecting SD card
2. And GPRS is not working

May you suggest what can I check? Please suggest whether I can check some missed runtime files, congiguration files etc. Or review the logs to figure the problem.

Before rooting switching between WI-FI and GPRS worked properly and of course SD card was reachable.

I've purchased my xt701 in Hong Kong at 2-Aug-2010.
If you need additional info aout my device please advise.
