[MOTOXT701] update camera to 8mp

Here is the zip to update the camera to 8mp.Just flash with openrecovery. Guess moto made it stay under to 5mp but is capable to be 8mp. Another way to do it is take the camera apk file out the zip and delete the camera apk and odex file under system/app and then replace. Do whatever way is easier for you. Enjoy

Actually you can install this update with OpenRecovery.
Just copy camerupdate.zip into OpenRecovery/updates folder of sdcard. Run OpenRecovery and use Apply Update menu option.

anyone have trouble recording video with this? My device freezes or crashes and reboots when I enable video mode.

I havent had any issues.. did you make sure to delete both the original camera apk and the odex file?

Hmm, when this is applied correctly does it show up as an option in the camera mode? All I can select is 5mp.

But the patch seemed to be applied properly though OpenRecovery.

I just re-flashed my xt701 firmware and re-added this apk for the 8mp cam....it's a real shame that this device is being passed over for a taste of froyo...no loudspeaker issues, no performance issues with the flexible clock on the processor, no visibility issues in direct sunlight. Absolute top shelf video recording and stills even with the 5mp cam...and taking pictures at night are really just phenomenal. I will keep this bad boy for a while gladly, with or without the froyo treatment.
