Guys flash stock sbf then to root it use open recovery(which you also have to flash)make sure you have the latest firmware. The firmware fixes alot of bugs including wifi issues

jboogie: thanks for the reply. im a newbie here and i had done the earlier rooting process first. where do i get stock sbf file? and i would like to start over again. and when you say flash it, do we use rsdlite to flash? sorry for all the newb questions. thanks for all your help

The earlier rooting process is no longer need.
1. Go here and download one of your choice( I did taiwan service flash cause it has an updated version) Then flash with rsd lite http://and-developers.com/sbf:xt701
2.Download this update https://opensource.motorola.com/sf/s...22?id=atch3112 then rename to update.zip and put on sdcard(not in any folders just put on your sdcard)
3. Go into recovery (turn off phone, then boot in recovery) and apply update.zip.
Now you are updated!
After all this you no longer have root. So now after all the process you can flash openrecovery then go to root phone.

jboogie;
thanks again for your reply. i pressed the thank you button for you too.
my current build is: STCU 41.07.0
and kernel version 2.6.29-omap1
this wouldnt mess up my phone would it?
i understand now what i have to do, but the links you provided dont work. i know where to find the original service flash, but the link for the update, im not so sure where to find. perhaps if you just give us the naem of the file and i can search for it in opensource.motorola.com.
thank you again!!!!

hey man thank you very much for this helpful info.
It worked! for 3 months i had no wifi. until now.
I did the Tiwan flash as u recommended, and everything 'seems' to be working fine, except i needed to re-install the market manually, there were some chinese apps installed with it and,
the screen fonts are not sharp anymore.
it's like installing a new OS on a PC before installing the graphics card driver...
[UPDATE] I think this might be useful:
I DID manage to fix most of the problems. everything works smooth now.
all I did was use a different sbf file:
xt701-kernel-root.sbf
it's not the same build i had before which was STCU_41 but STCU_31 seems to work just fine.
actually it runs much smoother than when i first got it!

So I am stuck on STCU 31 (cannot find an update.zip to go to STCU 41), and settled for editing my build.prop file to make sure all the necessary internet and bluetooth properties get made, and not the silly ones that do not need to. I have been using this build.prop with no stability or performance issues. In combination with juice defender (free version), it makes for a very complete and smooth transition off of wifi and on to cellular data and back. Thought I would just share it here... backup your old build.prop, remove .txt extra extension, mount filesystem as r/w, and copy in /system/ directory on device...
