Updating the font files on XT701

Hi,
I have a XT701 from Hong Kong, 41.07 with the easy 1-click-root on. other than that the device is stock.
I would like to update the fonts so I'll have support in another language. I already have the fonts files (from a Milestone) but I don't know how to apply them to my XT701. Can you explain to me how to do that?

fonts are located in /system/fonts. You can replace them easy by using root explorer.

can I do that while the OS is running? there is no chance of ruining something? from what I know Milestone users use RSDlite to update their fonts

No we don't (RSD Lite was used on older Motorola phones). Backup the original ones and install OpenRecovery, you can revert back if you it won't work.

How do I backup the original files? with root explorer also?

yes. just copy and paste them to your sdcard

When I'm trying to paste the updated fonts to system\fonts via root explorer, it tells me that I can't paste because the file system is read only.

Must have root and make sure you press the mount button on the top while in root explorer.

So I've got all of these *.ttf font files on my XT701.

How do i actually change the font being used by the phone?

here is a metamorph package you can use to change font. SkaggzFont0.9.1.zip if you dont know how to use it.
Put the zip into your sdcard
Open Metamorph and select 'Pick Theme'
Find the downloaded .zip file within Metamorph's file browser.
Select the 'SkaggzFont0.9.1' file
Metamorph will begin to extract the file and launch the update UI
Scroll and select a color you want to use **DO NOT HIT THE APPLY ALL BUTTON**
Hit the 'Apply It!' button when it pops up.
Then hit 'Yes' to reboot your phone
