For that, you would need motoblur.

I need stock ROM BASEM_U3_01.12.0. I just bricked a Charm. It can't be flashed to ROM BASEM_U3_01.12.4. So,I guess flashing back to original ROM will revive it. Now,the Charm only stuck on bootloader.
    Thanks in advance.

Finally,I've downloaded the ROM. Need two times to wait for DL link on FileSonic. The Charm still stucks on bootloader. After entering bootlogo,it turns to bootloader. It's really weird. My Charm can be flashed to both 12.0 and 12.4 ROMs. This weird Charm which is my friend's Charm can't be flashed into both ROMs even RSD says Pass. I think it should be taken to the service center. Maybe flash chip problems.

    Solution

However, I understand that Telus and the Latin American carriers use the same frequencies, so I attempted flashing with this ROM. It flashed successfully in RSD-Lite, but the phone does not boot: I get "Err:A5,70,70,00,1F MEM_MAP Blank Service Req'd." Any idea what might be wrong with this ROM? Or perhaps is there access to a Telus ROM for the Charm?

    Thank you!

    Hello,

The Motorola MB502 (Charm), like other phones, is designed in such a way that it can't be downgraded to a lower version.

The .sbf files used to flash the firmware contain "code groups" (CG31, CG37...). When RSD Lite is used to flash a phone, the first step is to disassemble the .sbf file into .smg files, each one containing a code group, which then are flashed one by one.

Inside the phone there are other code groups which are not flashed, but updated after successfully flashing to a newer version. Somewhere in those code groups a flag is set with the new version. Should a lower version is then attempted, the process is refused and fails. In that case one can get the familiar black screen and error message.

Specifically for the MB 502 (Charm) the .sbf files available on the Internet at the moment are:

    BASEM_U3_01.12.0_DEBLUR_SIGNED_USABASIL01RINT150AI 013.0R_PDS000_US1SOMPBASLTHAI_P001_A002_HWp3_1FF

    BASEM_U3_01.12.4_DEBLUR_SIGNED_USABASIL01RINT150AI 013.0R_PDS000_UC1SOMPBASLRTINT_P025_A016_HWp3_1FF

    BASLA_U3_00.32.202_SIGNED_USABASMSTLALA02A.0R_PDS0 01_GCXBASLMSTLALA_P039_A023_M006_HWp3_1FF

    BASLA_U3_00.32.202_SIGNED_USABASMSTLALA02A.0R_PDS0 01_GCXBASLMSTLALA_P039_A023_M006_HWp3_Service1FF

    T-Mobile_MB502_02.60.5_1FF_01

    T-Mobile_MB502_03.90.7_1FF_01

Some very important facts to note about those .sbf files:

    1) Some contain newer versions than others. That means that if one with a newer version is flashed on the phone, you cannot flash an older version back. The T-Mobile files are the newest on that list.

    2) The files are meant for different markets, where different WCDMA basebands are used. There are two main "sets" in this case:
    1700 / 2100
    850 / 1900 / 2100
This means that if you have a phone with a given baseband and flash it with another, that phone won't be able to connect to the cellular network anymore. The T-Mobile files contain a 1700 / 2100 version.

    3) Some of the files contain a MotoBlur version, others don't have it. The T-Mobile files have it.

If you are in the case where you have flashed an incorrect (baseband, that is) .sbf file and this has a newer version (very commonly the T-Mobile files) then you won't be able to flash it back. Unless your carrier releases an appropriate, newer (or at least the same) version.

There is however a procedure that can be performed in order to modify the files inside the phone and change the baseband. This procedure is a bit long but it works!

The procedure assumes that you have installed the following:

Java Development Kit (JDK). Current version is 6 update 26 and can be found here:

    Java SE Downloads

Android Development Kit (Android SDK). Current version is revision 11 and can be found here:

    Android SDK | Android Developers

The tool that will be used is called the ADB (Android Debug Bridge). Once the Android SDK is installed, the ADB is typically installed here:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools

This path (or whichever contains adb.exe) needs to be added to the PATH variable in Windows (see Windows documentation in order to learn how).

The next step is to install Universal Androot 1.6.2 beta5 on the phone. This can be done in two ways:

    1) Download and manually copying it to the SD card, then running from there.
    2) Download and install directly from the Internet Browser.

The .apk can be found in many sites, one is:

    http://www.addictivetips.com/wp-cont....6.2-beta5.apk

What follows is the procedure published by ergosteur and that can be found also in the following link:

Looking for TELUS ROM for Motorola Charm - Page 4 - xda-developers

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

    Flash T-Mobile SBF

Follow Motoblur wizard. Connect to Wifi and sign in to motoblur account.

Open Settings, go to Applications > Development and enable USB debugging.

From the notifications pulldown, select USB Connection and choose "Memory Card Access".

Extract the bp-nvm-default.zip onto your sd card somewhere.

From the notifications pulldown, select USB Connection and choose "Charge only".

Run Universal Androot, hit Go Root. Phone will display Woot! Your device is rooted!

    Close Universal Androot.

On your computer, open a Terminal or Command prompt.

Type adb devices to make sure your device is detected

    C:\>adb devices
    List of devices attached
    022222202000C device

    Then run an adb shell:
    C:\>adb shell
    $

at the $ prompt, type su. At this point a window will pop up on your device asking you to allow "Unknown" root privileges.
If this is successful, the $ will change to #

    C:\>adb shell
    $ su
    su
    #

Now, remount your /system in read write

    # mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock7 /system
    mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock7 /system
    #

    Change to the bp_nvm_default folder

    # cd /etc/motorola/bp_nvm_default
    cd /etc/motorola/bp_nvm_default

EDIT: I found a rooting methode that did work despite the firmware, all = good.

    Hello,

I've bought my Motorola Charm in the USA (T-Mobile) and I'm using it in Europe. Unfortunatly I immediatly applied the system update and it appears this update makes the phone unrootable. Which is a major issue because with Android 2.1 installing on the SD Card is impossible without a Root and this device only comes with 100mb of internal memory.

So I'd like to go back to the original Firmwire, instead of '2.1-update 1' that is currently installed. Is this possible?

    My phone:
    Firmware Version: 2.1-update 1
    Baseband Version: EPU93_U_02.3B.02
    Build Version: BASIL_U3_03.90.7

If you have a thread detailing the best way to install the firmware on the Charm, then this would be much appreciated as well. I'm currently at my wits' end from all the failed rooting.

P.S. if anyone knows of a way to Root the updated Firmware then this would be ok with me as well. I'm fine with Motoblur and the T-Mobile apps, I just want to use my SD for Apps.
