Rom Dump for Motorola Spice XT300
Since there are over 200 views on each of my posts I can assume that there are people with a Motorola Spice looking to hack and try out a custom ROM.
Looks like currently we don't have a custom recovery image however I have found the resources to create one so this will be coming shortly.
I have came into a bind however because I forgot to backup this phone and the recovery partition is kinda in trouble.
Anyone that has a phone I need a Rom Dump of the original software to continue. Below you will find the directions on how to create a Rom Dump and post it online so that I can continue.
First download this -> android.podtwo.com/romdump/romdump_v72.zip
Unzip then put the install onto your SDCARD.
Ensure that your device is rooted with z4root.
Download Terminal Emulator from Market and run it.
type the following;
cat /sdcard/install >/data/local/install
chmod 04755 /data/local/install
After this is completed type the following:
Wait for awhile this process takes about 15-20 minutes. Once completed you will have a folder that says romdump in your SDCARD.
Zip these files and upload to mediafire
Reply to this thread with the link so that we can get started developing a recovery image for the Motorola XT300.
Thanks my twitter is linuzo if you need any assistance whatsoever.
Again Thanks for taking some time to help the community you will be recognised by others for your hard work.

Where are you from? There the Spice will be upgraded to Froyo?
I was doing some thinking and I have a suspicion that the Spice is closely related to the Cliq.
Think about it.
The screens are near identical. The CPU's are identical. The rest of the hardware seems near identical. The Cliq got an Eclair update right around the same time the Spice was released...
I'm thinking they're more-or-less the same phone except for the keyboards.
If that's true, we might be able to piggy-back off their work.
We could try. I cant test anything in Spice because I dont have one, my girlfriend has one
If someone puts together a ROM using a modded Cliq Kernel with Tether support I'd be willing to try loading it.
let's do this. I have a motorola spice i just unlocked, and am now using with fido.
willing to guinea pig my phone to get this updated. would love froyo on this beast
Its interesting you guys say this. In a 2.1 leaked update, we saw a few charm images in the framework that made us think Moto just ported 2.1 from the charm to cliq. Wouldn't surprise me it could be ported fairly easy.

The Following User Says Thank You to sublime1184 For This Useful Post:
Interesting, especially as the Charm is much farther removed from the Cliq than the Spice is.
If memory serves the Charm is a mid-range device with a Cortex A9 and PowerVR graphics, right?
And both the Cliq and Spice are low-end with their ARM 11's and older Adreno graphics
does anyone know if there are any 2.2 roms for the cliq floating around?
i created the romdump zip file for the Motorola XT300, here is the link: Motorola XT300 - romdump.rar
Thank you !
what are you trying to do? A custom recovery.img, like clockworkmod or a update.zip to recover boot.img and system?
I have a Brazilian XT300/Spice.
(I've noted that the Canadian and Brazilian versions are somewhat different.)

Why is it interesting to create a new recovery image? The current one can process custom update.zip, can it not?
Ok, it probably can not. I've found a custom rom faq. Finally.
linuzo, how are you developing the custom recovery? based on clockwork?

Romdump from the Brazilian XT300/Spice. Firmware version SESLA_U3_01.72.0.
This firmware is different from yours
