It maybe dangerous to do the update because it would update the bootloader level of your phone.If the bootloader level is updated your phone will never back up
to Froyo.

I bought a "junk" C2 on eBay last week. Turns out it was still under warranty, so I shipped it off for repair. Unfortunately my globe-trotting wife will snag it as soon as she gets back home. And it will likely be updated when I get it back. If Moto is true to form, they will have thrown a wrench into the rooting gears too.

@Michaelbaker The upgrade is availble only OTA/Wifi; no file for download. Do you know of any way monitor the update - fork the data to a separate file? It would have to be done external to the phone, I suppose.

But my guess is that 2.0.87 only adds the security features; .84/.85 may be the best to use anyway.

One of these days I'll have a nice junker to play with.

Doesn't matter, my wife has already claimed it. I can't risk her wrath by bricking it; I'll have to get another phone.

Nothing yet. Havnt got a follow up email and nothing in the soak forums. And as an aside on rooting it I came across a dos based program that seems to root any moto device. I will try and find the link for it when I get home. Soc doesn't allways work for me but this thing has worked everytime without fail.

That went up during the first soak. Been there for a while. Motorola took down the OTA soak test. They sent out a recent email to testers saying it will be a download with PC this time and we will get 24-48 hours notice. Nothing has come from Motorola since then. So for now...the 2.0.87 isn't available as far as I am aware. I hope its 2.0.88 when it does come out because the soak didn't go well but I did get a brand new cliq 2 from motorola for bricking my phone!

I find it absolutely amazing that the makers of the phone can brick them while the modders here can give us fabulous roms with no problems. If Motorola would get smart and unlock their bootloaders they would sell a lot more phones. Personaly as it stands my next phone will not be Motorola and that's a shame because I really do like their products normally. When my wife's contract came up she wanted a cliq2 and I would not let her get one and got her the amaze 4g and even non rooted it is a wicked phone even with all the bloat.

Last I read on the moto forum they said the .87 hasn't been released yet. The link in the OP apparently is still under construction; they've added the updated features list since I first viewed it.

I think that the soak will update the bootloader level.If you update your cliq 2 but fails ,you can't let your cliq 2 work again by flashing the 2.2 or 2.2.2 sbf file.

Aha,I've made a big progress in porting the cm 7.2 build by Quarx2k.
I'll post the cm 7.2 later.
