How to Root 2.2 Aria (Stock or Upgraded)
I DID IT!! and here's how you can too it's pretty easy
1st go here to download AlphaRev X to turn S-on to S-Off
AlphaRev X - Make it your phone
in the beta application windows
just fill in your phone and pc specs for your serial number look for it on the HBOOT screen of your aria and generate key... remember your beta key they give you
extract AlphaRev X and start it up it will look like the command prompt and enter your beta key
let it do its thing it will reboot the phone into HBOOT and continue reconfiguring... afterward it should restart.
the find out if s-on turned off just boot your phone into hboot mode and you should see it at the top it should say S-OFF
2nd:
1. download the clockworkmod recovery file HERE. Extract the contents of zip (u will see a file named "recovery.img")
2. Download the android flasher here
3. Run Android Flasher, and select "Recovery". (It's one of the options on the left side). Navigate to the location of your recovery.img, and select it. The phone should switch itself to fastboot, then install clockworkmod. It then goes right into clockworkmod, and you can follow the steps listed to install the root.

To root:
Copy Super User to your sdcard root
Start clockworkmod recovery (start phone in HBOOT mode then select recovery)
Select "install zip from sdcard"
Then select "Choose zip from sdcard"
Then select "su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip"
Then select "Yes - install su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip" to confirm
Then go back
Then reboot.
You're rooted!Last edited by sketch2k278; 06-26-2011 at 10:33 PM.

HTC Aria w/ Android 2.2 - Wi-Fi Tethering Works
Wow, what an ordeal. This was the first time I'd tried anything remotely like this, and i'm freaking exhausted after six hours at this, so bear with me as my descriptions/terminology may leave a bit to be desired:
The phone is an AT&T branded HTC Aria running Android 2.2. Here's what actually worked, near as I can tell...
.5. (heh, edit #1) I did have to install HTC Sync (the full package, with drivers). I went ahead and uninstalled the Sync application only (leaving the driver packages in place) as a preemptive measure against HTC-inspired app jealousy.
1. I got AlphaRev X installed per the instructions i found on unlockr. It was first necessary to install the usb fastboot drivers i found there.
2. I installed clockwork2501 using the 'recovery' option in android flasher.
3. I had to reboot the phone into HBOOT mode and a little progress bar popped up in the upper-right of the screen, when i went to recovery i used the 'install from SD card' or some-such option and installed the su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip from the root of the flash card using clockwork.
4. I installed wifi_tether_v3_0-pre14.apk with adb.
5. I copied the file fw_bcm4329.bin to the ./android.tether directory I created at the root of the SD card.
6. It was necessary to configure DNS servers to get internet access, but I've got it working with Access Control now.
I'm only posting this now so that I won't forget to. I scrambled all over Google for most of the day pulling bits and pieces from the four corners of phone cracking arcana to bring this off. I'll do some edits later if i need to.
I hope this helped someone.Last edited by jSIXk; 06-29-2011 at 04:59 PM.

glad you guys got 2.2 Rooted. i will be putting together a definate "how-to" guide using AlpharevX in the near future.(when i get time)
this is a good tutorial, but the OP forgot to add certain requirements to complete the operation. you must have all the necessary drivers installed first for this to work, as im sure you found out iSIXk
check the Aria super guide for instructions about drivers
also, i think this only works with HBoot 1.02. if you have lower HBOOT you must upgrade to 1.02Last edited by zedbra; 06-29-2011 at 07:25 PM.

yeah there are multiple ways of rooting this phone (which is weird) but for what its worth its a great thing because of that annoying HBOOT cockblocking the rooting process lol
And Zedbra thanks for changing the title of this threadLast edited by sketch2k278; 06-30-2011 at 11:31 AM.

hi,
thanks for detail instruction. I think I succesffuly rooted htc ARIA. I tried Terminal Emullator from market, it will ask permission from SU. but when I install other app, it still says blocked
- 07-31-2011, 09:40 PM #9
did you use AlphaRevX to root the phone??
did you install SU.apk??
if the phone is rooted and you have Clockwork recovery installed, flash the Liberated Aria ROM or any custom ROM that has Superuser already included

HBOOT is like the bootloader screen. to get it on the Aria, hold volume down and press power button while phone is in off position

Alrighty...followed the steps, but still not rooted. S-OFF appears in the HBOOT screen, and I can get into ClockworkRecovery. Not sure how to proceed. No SuperUser ninja in the app tray and no third-party installation allowed. Ideas? I'm going nucking futs over here.

check out THIS Guide.
if you have S-Off and Clockwork installed, all you need is to add SU. to do this is done easily with two options.
1: flash a custom ROM such as Liberated Aria or CyanogenMod. these already have SU included in the ROM
2:
-Copy SU_xxxx.zip to SD Card (search for the latest SU.zip)
-Boot into CWM Recovery
-Select Install Zip file from SD
-Select Choose Zip File
-Select SU-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip and confirm install
-Reboot and you now have SU in the App Drawer

I'm filling this thread with noob, I know. My bad.
But I'm still lost. I've got a blue 'Revolutionary" CWM recovery screen, and installing SU files has no effect. If I try to install a MOD like Cryo, will I end up with an expensive paperweight for a phone? I'm not rooted, Terminal Emulator is giving me a 'permission denied' when I do the 'such' test. So I'm not sure what my next step is.
FWTW -- My drivers are labeled 'My HTC' in Device Manager. Those the correct drivers?
EDIT: LOL nevermind. I was doing it right. My dumb@$$ thought I was wrong. Installing Cyanogen now. Thanks for the guides and the help!Last edited by CaptNemo131; 11-14-2011 at 01:05 PM. Reason: I answered my own question.
