Web Sessions
By Web Sessions, if you mean correctly setting up the internet profile (easily found) and going to the correct wap web site, then that sounds pretty easy to do.
In actuality, I don't give a crap about all their ringtones and wallpapers (don't work anyways). I'm only concerned about Google Maps, which work on the T-Mobile FW, and the games they sell. I've bought about 10 games so far.
But I'm running out of games to buy from TMobile, so now I'm thinking I should reflash it so I can run games from other vendors. Also, I REALLY like having bluetooth DUN working with my Web Tablet.
Has no one using a T-Mobile V8 re-flashed their phone? I'd really like to hear about your experiences.
EDIT: Reading more about flashing... Do I need to unlock my phone first? Or will reflashing do that for me? I'm confused.Last edited by cyberbillp; 09-16-2008 at 07:20 AM.

Flashing will not unlock your phone. Only unlock codes can unlock it. Flashing an unlocked firmware will keep your phone's original lock status (ex. if original lock was with T-Mobile, it will remain with T-Mobile). If you flash a firmware that is locked with a different provider (ex. AT&T), your lock will be switched from T-Mobile to AT&T, but as far as I know, the unlock code will remain the same as that of T-Mobile but it's best not to risk it as I've never tried it.
Buying games from the phone, is controlled by your network account and not by the firmware, so even an unbranded V8, will allow you to buy games only from T-Mobile's website and not others, as your mobile account is of T-Mobile. There are other ways of getting games though which I can't describe here
.
I believe that Google Maps should still continue to work but I can't guarantee it since I'm only making an assumption based on logical reason about the current situation.

I am quite unsure whether the unlock code is same for all carriers as when you purchase one online then the site lets you to choose the carrier.
The applications will work unless T-Mobile signs them using its own signatures. Then, because you download then directly via W@P, they will not be available.
Thanks Semseddin for the signature and avatar.

You need to flash the 512MB version of LinuxMOD5 first on your V8.
Take a note of your current firmware and flex versions so that you can go back to your original firmware in case something goes wrong. Flash boot-loader A3.CF before flashing LinuxMOD.
HAVE A FULLY CHARGED BATTERY BEFORE FLASHING.

I asked this over on Rasputin's site too, but maybe there's more traffic here: my folder structure doesn't look like what's pictured in the guide here. The only folders I have are Documents, Music, Pictures, Programs, unKnown, Video, and Voice. Do the extra folders (Custom, Skins, etc.) come with a modification I haven't done? Would it work to just create those folders manually?

No skins folder
I have a T-Mobile V8 2 GB and it does not have a skins folder nor erx files. Therefore, how would one go about changing the T-Mob boot splash screen? (not the moto logo but the T-Mob one)
Thanks in advance.

Yeah pretty safe. Remember to update your boot-loader to A3.CF before flashing and ALWAYS have a fully charged battery.
Before flashing the No RSA A3.CF boot-loader, make sure you have the original stock A3.CF boot-loader first on the phone otherwise you can damage your phone.
Before flashing anything though, take a note of your current firmware and flex versions, and try to obtain a copy of it (V8 Firmware SuperThread). That way if you need to take your V8 for warranty issues etc, they won't see any modded firmware as flashing modded firmware voids your warranty.

absolutely brilliant! flashed my phone with the NO_RSA_Evolution3, in under 10 mins and it's working like a charm!
still getting used to the new menu system, and the fact that i need to put a number of my programs back - the rest of my content was unscathed cos i have a 2GB.
brilliant guide - couldn't have done it without it. and thanks to Rasputin007 for a great MP ... Cheers to all the modders out here for helping out a noob like me!

As long as you do NOT flash a locked firmware onto your unlocked phone it will stay unlocked. All modded firmwares are unlocked, only the stock (OEM) firmwares can have a lock.
If you use Vista with SP2 you should be fine.
