NO_RSA Evolution 3
This is the NO_RSA Evolution 3 firmware, which is an updated version of Evolution 2 with Snesx.
The changes are:
new "System Management" submenu under Tweaks which includes
- Swap Memory, so you can add extra physical memory to your V8, so the V8 does not have to unload stuff and load new stuff into RAM memory, it can now use a certain size of the User Memory (512MB V8) or the 2GB memory (2GB V8) to store memory loaded stuff. It should make the V8 perform faster under heavy multi tasking. Just click the menu, select the swap memory size you want to use and wait, then press the menu again and it will offer the option to activate the swap memory, do that. Once the swap memory is setup it will be always there, unless you delete it of course, but it needs to be activated after every reboot. You can check the status of this swap memory with
-System Info, which will display the currently used memory and swap memory with adjustable refresh circles.
-Phone Firewall is an application that can be used to block certain phone numbers and there is the option to block unkown numbers as well, perfect if you want to setup the phone for your kids.
In the "Utilities" submenu there are 3 new menus
- Arcman, looks like zLauncher, but is for archiving file and folders as well as unpacking compressed files, the MPlayer.rar file that is included unpacks perfectly, which brings me to another point. MPlayer had to be removed from automatic installation because it just took too much space. Now 2GB V8 should already have it in place as the 2GB memory does not get wiped when flashing a complete firmware. The 512MB V8 however needs to have the MPlayer.rar file copied into /ezxlocal/download/mystuff/Programms (note the 2m's!! in Programms as there is another Programs folder), then use Arcman to Extract->Extract Here and reboot, now MPlayer will be working on the 512MB V8. 2GB V8's that do not have a "Programms" folder in /mmc/mmca1, have to create one and use the same method.
-Cronometer is like a stopwatch, but you also can take times for certain stages (Mark button)
-V8 Screenshots lets you take screenshots of any menu and store them on the V8, you can adjust the number of screenshots to be taken, the timing when they will be taken and where you want to store them, User Memory (512MB V8 and 2GB V8) and 2GB memory (2GB V8 only). Once you have taken some screenshots, you have to rename the screenshot files with zLauncher or they will be overwritten the next time you take screenshots again. you can find them in /ezxlocal/download/mystuff/snapshot and /mmc/mmca1/snapshot.
The zLauncher got updated as well and works now as a TextViewer as well, but you also can edit existing and opened text files, but you also can edit scripts, sh files, and save them. Because of the much more powerfull potential that zLauncher posses, it has been password protected (password: 1234), you can of course change that password to whatever you like. This way only the person/persons that know the password can have total access to the filesystem. For example you can create a new folder in the User Memory or the 2GB memory and call it .whatever, now if you add the "dot" in front of the name then File Manager will not be able to see this folder, but zLauncher will be. So you can have a "hidden" folder in which you can save/store stuff that is not meant to be seen by everybody and because zLauncher is password protected you are the only one that has access to it. I tried the ZHidenFolder mod, which basically does the same, but because zLauncher still can see those "hidden" folders there was not much point in using that HiddenFolder mod. Also FTP programs like FileZilla can see those "dot"name folders.
You can change the language of Cronometer and Phone Firewall, but not through the app menu, that somehow does not work. But if you look at /ezxlocal/download/mystuff/apps/language/English, open that with wordpad and change the words of the right hand side to the words of your language and save it as "Italian" or whatever, then you can change the cfg files for Cronometer and Phone Firewall to use your language.
A very big THANK YOU has to go to all those people that made those Z6 mods, without their work our V8 would be less interesting, also I have to thank DaRk_dOg for his tireless help to get this up and running and his help in testing the 512MB version, this thanks also has to go to Protector who tested the 2GB version.
UPDATE
This is typical, I just have decided to release Evo 3 and along comes a very useful mod (thanks to DaRk_dOg) which really would finish off the Evo 3 firmware. This Mod can be found under the System Management and is called CPU Frequency. Well as the name says you can adjust the MHz frequency of the CPU. In the next 4 images you can see what happens when you set the frequency from the default of 133Mhz to 532Mhz.
The V8 seems to be much more responsive with a higher Mhz, it kind of flies through the menus now, but I do not know what happens over the long term, so be carefull at the beginning.
There should not be any more bugs, but if you find one let me know.Last edited by rasputin007; 08-14-2009 at 01:34 PM. Reason: No more working links

Rated 10++++!!!
It is the first time that a modded firmware has provided so many powerful applications!
Until know all these were exclusive privilege of Z6 owners. Well these days are over!
Rasputin007 has managed to surprise us once again with a completely updated Evolution Firmware that includes many many tools which will keep most of us busy for a long long time.
Ras you know that we can't thank you enough for this and for your total effort in V8 modding.
Once again thank you.

yea lol well i turned on my phone and there are the my favs icons...idk if i can turn them off lol. and also not really a bug because its not a problem but in office tools motosync is there twice.
okay so i can turn off the my faves by going to shortcuts while at the home screen and clicking my faves settings. so i would just leave it because its not harming anyone and it gives people more options. Just wondering how can i use the snes thing do i download roms and put them in the folder that i see when i use filezilla?Last edited by almyz125; 02-16-2009 at 02:26 PM. I think i know what you mean. In the main screen you see 4 icons (recent calls, messages bluetooth and contacts) right? By saying my favs you mean those? If yes, these are just a phone setting (shortcuts), you can change it by Options-Customize home-shortcut keys-Show/hide
About V8snesx: Go at "v8snesx" folder. You will place all your roms (*.smc files) inside "Snes" folder.

Sorry, but those "My Faves" are pure accident and not intended.
Nice if they are working as long as you have a T-Mobile sim card. I do not have them on my 2GB with Orange, Vodafone and O2.
