The german forum had the same problem with navtab it just would not accept some special german letters like ü, ö, ä and ß.
So DeJe recompiled navtab and it worked. I thought I had that "newer" navtab version already included in Basic Plus, unless you downloaded a very early version of it.

Need help! I flashed Basic Plus V8 (2GB) - it was successful. Then I've ftp copied packages that I wanted, installed fine. Then I tried to restore a Backup, then my phone rebooted --- hanged for more than 10 minutes. I took out the battery, rebooted manually. Now my phone is stuck in startup screen, the startup sound plays though. When I take out the battery then put it back in and plug in my USB, it just stays there ...
*currently doing a hard reset and reflashing ...
** reflash OK - now to do something about that Backup problemLast edited by mangbhoy; 05-21-2009 at 08:11 PM.

The problem with Backups is that they also include settings of the firmware you were using then, so for example if you used Linuxmod5 and now Basic Plus and restore the backup you took with the LM5, your V8 will go into a right mess, as it will change the main menu of Basic Plus into the LM5 one.
If you have the backup on your PC then do this.
Flash basic Plus, and create a new Backup, copy that to the PC as well now replace the main.db, all files in the ../profile folder and the devdetail.wbxml file from the Basic Plus backup with the ones you got from the LM5 (or whatever) backup, now copy this back onto the V8. Make sure you got all the pictures and ringtones in the same location, which you assigned to your contacts, very important. And now do a restore backup. You will now have at least your "old" phonebook back and your wap/mms settings.
That could depend on the amount of media files you have. On one occation I had around 400 MP3 files on my V8 and that took some time to read the first time, but still not 20 minutes. Try to turn off phone, take battery out for 15 minutes and then try again.

HI Rasputin.

Basic plus
Great work Res, you are truly a master of your trade. But to get to the point. An some may think you just an idiot, but I ran into a problem with the package installer. The folders that is listed to put the packages don't exist when i installed the firmware. so I made the folders didnt work. Put them in the folder that closest resemble the folders, didnt work.then I went to as far as putting a file in every single folder that in on both memory, that didnt work. I'm not sure if its just an problem i'm having because i didnt do something right at some point. Or if its a random bug that I somehow got lucky to run into. But if someone can help me out that would be great .

That is normal and the fault is in the Memory Card USB Setting that does not allow the V8 access to the partitions while they are being used by Windows. Unfortunately the swap memory is on that partition, hence the V8 freezes.
Solution: use FTP, no hang ups, no freezing up, works brilliant.
If I remember correctly* the package folder gets created automatically after you flashed the firmware.
On the 512MB V8 it should be /ezxlocal/download/mystuff/package and on the 2GB V8 it should be /mmc/mmca1/package. If those package folder do NOT exist, then there is something gone wrong with the firmware flashing. Try again.
*I do not use Basic Plus any more, hence I have to recall the working from my memory
