Getting contacts from a broken flip
I wrote the stickied (and now woefully out of date) Simpleton's Guide To Modding Your Razr V8, and now I need some help from the crew here.
My Razr snapped in half the other day on a simple attempt to flip it open, and I'd like to get my my contacts/messages off it.
It powers on, makes the boot sound, but obviously I can't see what's going on. I still have the Linuxmod3a firmware I wrote about. Plugging in the phone, I can see the 2GB memory (pics, etc), but not the native phone memory.
This may be why MPT fails when I try to access the contacts, and why the text messages it lists are from when I last synced the two, and not since then.
Is it beyond recovery? Why should the screen breaking affect the phone memory?
Is there anything I can do to poke around a little more? Any other software. Sad to see it end this way. I just got my new g2x as a replacement...

i had tried p2k v6 but nothing showed up, though i haven't used it before so i may have done it wrong.
when i thought it did sucessfuly connect, the p2k status at the bottom said something to the effect of "AT8->COM5", but no cell files showed up in the explorer. alternatively, sometimes it said no modem/p2k/usblan device found"
one issue was i was unsure whether or not the phone needed to be in 'modem' mode, which i had no way of switching to w/o the screen.
i ended up buying a flex cable on ebay for $8, which i'll use. the memory may just be damaged.
in the meantime, is it ok to transfer my sim to my new phone? will the old phone still be able to pull up the texts/contacts, or will the sim be locked to the new phone now?

The problem is that you need to set in the phone the usb connection as "modem mode", so p2k Commander can detect it and show system folders, but you can not do this :S
You can do it. In a future you can reinsert it in the old phone.in the meantime, is it ok to transfer my sim to my new phone? will the old phone still be able to pull up the texts/contacts, or will the sim be locked to the new phone now?
Sim cards do not lock with a phone
