Help! I am in the process of acquiring a A-1200 Ming Motorola, and would like to start programming it, but am unsure exactly what program to use for flashing it with the original Firmware, etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

U9 not seen as connected via Unimoto, but does via P2k
Connected a U9 phone using USB cable (CA-82), and installed Windows Drivers.
Alas, Unimoto does not display any connected phone - although Windows shows this as a camera. Tried with phone set as modem, and as USB printer.
P2k Commander v6 finds the phone (set options to P2k05 over USBLan, Standard P2k commands).
This allows complete listing of files (/*) but not the Seems (P2k phone Seems).
This only works when phone is set to USB Printer, not modem.
My desire is initially to unlock (to accept any SIM), obtain the security codes, then to reflash.
RSD Lite has also connected to the phone, for which I can observed the following values:
Software Version: R6632_G_81.11.48R_A_81.11.48R_A
Flex Version: GSJPICOTIMIT052 - 1.0.EU.0.0.0.2.1.1.1.2.1.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0
Bootloader Version: 0623
As always, community support is much appreciated ;o)

Thats because U9 is not a P2K phone, its a Magx phone. Unimoto wont work with it, P2KCommander v6 works with it via USBLan (Telnet)
You see, madness, as you know, is like gravity. All it takes is a little push.

U9 using P2k to unlock & retrieve security codes
@OCM770 - thanks for rapid response.
Sadly P2k v6 seems to fall-over (halts during operation) quite easily when retrieving the data from the U9 phone. P2k retrieves all files (/*) but P2k fails when attempting to read "P2k phone seems". Phone set to modem mode.

The P2k settings used are:
P2K05 over USBLAN (USBLAN / Ftp fails to connect)
USBLAN switch command : at+mode=8
Use IP : 192.168.16.2
P2k Tuning
Safe (slow) 3G-P2k commands (A1000, V980...)
Manual Settings
Filename filter : /*
Use P2k05 commands (override autodetect)

I read on http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/show....php?p=3847140 that there are two Seems of interest to me (requiring use of the "xvi32" Hex Editor)... Running the "P2k phone seem" does not list the output (the logs show that seems have been found, but not the content) - so I am none the wise...
0074_0001 - Stores Phone Lock Code
0076_0001 - Stores Phone Security Code
What other steps could I attempt for SIM unlocking, together with code retrieval?

With the first response from OCM770 I was able to find the extra modmymoto guides (which curiously did not turn up with my initial U9 text searches on this forum):
Backup u9 using MotoMagxBackup

nice this came in handy when i got a razr from ebay.
if you are planning to unlock the phone to accept a sim from a different carrier(att to tmobile) call the carrier which the phone is locked to and ask them to give you the subsidy code. they should give it to you just tell them u bought it from ebay and you need it so you can use another carriers sim card. ive tried it with several phones and it works.Last edited by Jorge_58; 10-16-2009 at 12:44 AM. 'tis the season to be jolly!
also about time I shared with you my Moto-story ;o)
1. started U9 in bootloader mode (* # and power-on button)
2. started RSD 4.5.3, and waited for phone to be connected
3. selected bootloader to be used: R6632_G_81.12.18R_pico_Bootloader_consumer_replace r.shx - and clicked START...
4. waited for reboot. did another hard-reboot.
5. again started U9 in bootloader mode (* # and power-on button) and waited for RSD to show connection to motorola
6. selected firmware to be used: R6632_G_81.12.18R_LinuxMod-V0.3-PsY.sbf - and clicked START...
7. saw new background upon restart. Switched unit off and replaced with SIM with known-to-work SIM and tried calling... SMS... - smiled and waved a thankyou towards the modmymoto community!
in addition to RSD-Lite (found using a web-search), then other resources used can be found here
this included the bootloader and firmware flash:
linuxmod-v0.3-psy\[MOTO U9] R6632_LinuxMod-V0.3-PsY\R6632_G_81.12.18R_LinuxMod-V0.3-PsY.sbf
Many thanks InsecureSpike and the others who posted their knowledge!
