[Guide] Modifying DRM in skins/theme iconres.ezx. by Wildcard26 of www.motomodding.us

The DRM for the Linux based phones are based in the iconres.exz file used for skin/themes installed to you V8/Z6. Now as mentioned in the guide on changing the Cli (outer Image for V8) it is required that you PLEASE familiarize yourself with InsecureSpike’s Skinning Guide. I also urge that in your scavenging you familiarize yourself with the Skin in use on your phone and pay attention to the DRM that appears. In your scavenging it would help you to identify what file names apply to which icons. For instance; if you have been scavenging already; you will probably notice some icons with “cli” at the beginning or end of the file name; these usually apply to the outer image display. You will also notice that some have “hed” within the filename; these usually apply to the top display of the DRM in menu windows.
You may also notice; if you haven’t already; in changing the outer image in some iconres that there may be no logo_motorola.png file; some skins don’t have this. The same applies here too. Some skins; particular those specified for Z6 do not have the “cli” files. It would take a lot more work to just import these since all the other files related to the outer display, like the back grounds and so forth and therefore more familiarization with the iconres. You will become one with it and know it like the back of your hand.
All the same; split some iconres.ezx files and get familiar with all the files. I think I’ll start with this first so you can get to scavenging and get familiar. This is important particularly since it will extract the files in their exact file names and is relevant for you import. You can get you images, make a copy of the folder you saved them to ad edit them and overwrite the files you worked with; that way there will be no confusion with the file names.
As I mentioned first I would get into the “Splitting” the iconres first. Please note this is your guide to your customization and not a license to modify another Skin authors work to create a “new” skin. If you do something like this and choose to release it as a MishMash then give proper credit.
Extracting the icons is covered in the first part of InsecureSpike’s Skinning guide. Use Kview as they would extract you icons in the .png format that is best for skinning. (Again please familiarize yourself with this skinning guide it will help in your understanding).
The icons you choose should be stored in one folder and be careful not to overwrite an icon you may want. Create as many icon folders as you want so you can identify them all then eliminate the icons you want by saving them to you final folder again being careful not to overwrite one you may want. Note this folder as it will be what you will use to put your DRM together.

Ok so you got you icons and you have your desired skin. I will be using Cristal Carbon (modified) and icons that I scavenged from the Grass Vista skin by DK and edited by Woody (Thanks again for the work man I appreciate it.)

    Open Iconres Version 1.0

Open your iconres.ezx file. In this example we use Cristal Carbon (modificado). Make a backup of this folder in case you want to revert back to the original.

You will then see the listing of file names with the icons.

Next you click on “Import Data”. You will then be prompted with a small window to navigate to the folder where you stored your “scavenged” icons. In this example I have my icons in Edited Icons folder. Then you click “Ok”.

You will see the progress bar run upward. Once completed you can even navigate in the listing of icons that refer to the set you just import and you will see it appear in the display.

Once this is done and you are sure of what you see. Click on “Create Iconres”. As is the case in replacing the outer image, you navigate back to the original iconres.ezx file you opened. Select it and click save.

You will be prompted if you want to replace this file. You will select “Yes”. The progress bar will run to completion and you have a new iconres.

Close Iconres Version 1.0 and save to your phone as you would a skin file contents and there you have it, you own customized DRM.

Have fun, Backup and no plagiarism.
