neonspeed you cannot change the operator tag the AT&T operator tag. You can do the mod for it and change the name, But it will change back to AT&T tag. Leaving your custom name showing briefly. Fldodger has tried this with V9 and it goes back to AT&T. Its got something to do with AT&T sending theres via signal or something or it could be do with the AT&T sim card.
But you could try this seem 0032_0001
offset 51 - bit 3: Alpha Tag Display (1 from SIM, 0 from phone) Set it to sim card & see what happens.

I did it to my old one, but not the new one. (I tried to rearrange the icons on the main menu and I bricked my phone.) I will re-do it and see if it works again and I will post pictures. I have to move into college today, so I don't know when I will have time. I really did have it done.

Is that from my instructions? I hope so - I don't want to look like a fool! Thanks for sharing cuz I was really feeling like a noob because it worked on no one else phone, but mine. How long has it been up, or did it switch off again? Please tell, because I am interested in figuring out how this banner works. I want to get it to work for everyone.
Picture:

My guide seems to work for me and it stays most of the time. Some times while traveling, it changes to another network name, but it stays I would say 98% of the time.Last edited by jlipscomb; 06-24-2008 at 11:54 AM. Reason: More Pics.

If it doesn't work, maybe you need to follow the following instructions. This ARE NOT mine, they are from thomas:
Best Luck!
Also, back onto the topic:
Has anyone else followed my instructions and notice that the voice mail icon stays on ALL the time, even thought you don't have a voice mail message?

Carrier text may be read from SIM....
No matter how many times, or what seems you edit, ....or if you change every possible carrier text name with OpEdit...... in some cases... your carrier name will ALWAYS come back.
Why? Because the carrier name is read from the SIM. Dependant on your carrier and/or account type, that is.
In my case, I did every seem edit, to change the carrier text. (There are 4-5 of edits that claim to fix this. I tried every combo of 1, 2 or more) Also changed every possible carrier text name in my plmn.txt.table file to my custom text with OpEdit. ..... ... . . . . When I would powerup my V9, my Custom text would appear.... but only for a while. After a short time, it would revert to my carrier name (Tmobile in my case).
It seems, that depending on carrier, you may just be doomed to see the carrier name. Even with the seem edit to "read carrier text from SIM or phone" option set to "read from phone" it doesnt matter.
If your carrier text display is read from you SIM, it may ALWAYS revert to carrier name. Sucks.
If I'm wrong.... anyone,.... please correct me. But I personally have just accepted that I'll always have the (tmobile) carrier text onscreen.
I beat my head against the wall for a few hours one night... editing and editing, trying combinations of seem edits.... and even tried disabling the automatic time and date update (which I thought might be the "ping" that was resetting my carrier text, but no.)
-----------------------------------------
The 2G, 2.5G, and 3G indicators are associated with gprs indicator, and roaming indicator triangle, and altered with the same edits..... but NONE of these have anything to do with the carrier name text.Last edited by Prototype001XT; 03-04-2010 at 03:09 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

I feel your pain. I went through the same gauntlet of SEEM edits and research to find a solution that would work on my V9x.
Your phone may also be reading the alpha tag from the cell tower, which could be transmitting the carrier name information and overwriting the carrier name text on your SIM. This is just speculation, though.
You can try the following combination of SEEM edits (at your own risk, of course), which I have made to my V9x. You’re probably already familiar with most, if not all, of them.
You will also need to enable the menus for “Network Setup” and “Available Networks” on your phone. This information for the Z9 is probably available elsewhere on the forum. Before editing any offsets, make note of the original bit values.
Specifically, for enabling the custom alpha tag, in SEEM 0032_0001, change:
Offset 02: Bit 1 unchecked (OFF)
Offset 40: Bit 4 unchecked (OFF)
Offset 51: Bits 0, 2, 5, 6 checked (ON)
Then, in Network Setup > Band, set the option to “Automatic”. In Network Setup > Type, set the option to ”Manual”. In Network Setup > Speed, leave the option set at “Medium” since this apparently has no effect on the alpha tag.
After restarting your phone, go to Network > Available Networks, and then select your custom alpha tag, which should appear in the list of available carriers.
If my custom alpha tag doesn’t appear in the list right away, it will appear as ‘AT&T’ (in single quotes). After my phone has polled the nearest tower (usually within 10-15 minutes), my custom alpha tag will appear in the list. Then I can select it.
If I don’t need 3G service, I will reset the Band to “850/1900” and this will force my custom alpha tag to remain intact about 99% of the time. I have also found that my custom alpha tag will remain intact if I don’t stray from one location to another (e.g. connecting with a new cell tower hand-off). When the alpha tag changes, I simply go to Network > Available Networks, and then select my custom carrier alpha tag again.
It’s not a perfect solution by any means, but try it and see if your custom carrier text remains intact for a longer period.
Post back on your results.
