Motorola Backflip / Cliq XT has been rooted!
Aug 26, 2010 - 2:08 PM - by Skrilax_CZ
So as you might have heard, Droid 2 has been rooted. Well the same method is working on the Motorola Backflip, as several users were able to root their AT&T Backflips (until now, only old Chinese and Euro Backflips could be rooted via the Cliq method, as well as Quench) and on also Cliq XT. However the method is one of the "patience is a virtue" types at the moment, so don't lose your nerves

The thread with instructions can be found here:

Europeans Realize Dream of a Single Charger for All Cellphones
Aug 06, 2010 - 10:08 PM - by Clarkey
Cellphone battery dead? No problem: Just borrow a charger from a friend. Oh, wait — you can’t, because your friend doesn’t have the same phone as you, and his charger won’t work with your phone.

That annoyance will end next year, for Europeans at least. Thanks to the efforts of the European Commission, most cellphones sold in Europe will have a one-size-fits-all charger starting in 2011. So far, 10 major cellphone makers, including Apple, Motorola, Samsung and Research In Motion, have signed on to the agreement.

Jailbreaking made legal in the US
Jul 27, 2010 - 12:05 AM - by OCM
"Owners of iPhones and other smartphones are one step closer towards taking complete control of their gadgets, thanks to a new government ruling Monday on the practice of "jailbreaking."

This weekend has seen a flurry of activity about digital rights, but the biggest news dropped Monday morning, when the FCC announced that it had made the controversial practice of “jailbreaking” your iPhone — or any other cell phone — legal."

Droid X doesn't have blur. Or does it?
Jul 02, 2010 - 5:58 PM - by kn100
Another interesting takeway from Droid X launch, was the total absence of Motorola Blur custom user interface from the event. When asked about it, Sanjay Jha, Motorola CEO, confirmed that MotoBlur is running on Droid X, but it has been hidden from the user.

Hidden from the user?! WTF?!

HP lays off some Palm employees, blames 'integration'
Jul 02, 2010 - 5:50 PM - by kn100
Hewlett-Packard has cut some former Palm staffers from its ranks as it closes its acquisition of the smartphone maker. I'm hearing different numbers from sources (once) close to the company, so it's difficult to put a firm number on them. Sounds like it's not too, too many though. Double digits, not hundreds. Still: sad and awful.
"Part of the integration strategy is consolidation of functions and operations, as appropriate," a spokesman for the company told me. "There always is turnover in organizations. Palm employees overall are enthusiastic about having the financial stability and global scale necessary to complete their vision."

Motorola Goldfinch and Bei Hai touchscreen phones show up
Jun 08, 2010 - 1:04 PM - by Av3LaR
Ready for more leaked Motorola phones? Well then, meet the Motorola Goldfinch 8208 and the Motorola Bei Hai, which have just been spotted over at the Bluetooth SIG.

Both devices are touchscreen pones, and, according to PC Online, the Goldfinch runs Android (unknown version).

Motorola Goldfinch 8208 features a 3.2 inch display, Bluetooth 2.1, FM radio with RDS, 3MP camera, and ISDB-T receiver – ISDB-T is a digital TV standard used in Latin America and Japan, so the phone will probably be launched in these markets first.

The Goldfinch looks good enough to be your next mid-end touchphone (that’s if you’re into Moto Android handsets, of course):

Motorola Bei Hai will be available in Asia (probably in China), apparently coming with Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 2.1, 5MP camera, HD video recording (720p), and HDMI port.

15 Motorola Android phones will see light on 2010
Jun 07, 2010 - 4:27 PM - by Av3LaR
Motorola's director of marketing, Tom Satchwell, was recently quoted saying that 20 new Motorola Androids were slated for release in 2010, including a few unlocked models that would work with any carrier.

The quote comes from Slashgear and ties in with Motorola’s CEO Sanjay Jha who said something similar less than a week ago. With half the year already passed, we have actually only seen five phones officially announced:

1. Motorola Backflip
2. Motorola XT800
3. Motorola Motoroi (Motorola Milestone XT720)
4. Motorola CLIQ XT
5. Motorola Devour

To add to this list we have two more Androids rumored to release in July, the Motorola Shadow and Motorola DROID 2 (DROID Xtreme). So that still leaves 13 more Androids for the next couple of months. Do you know any that we missed out? Email us your thoughts and let's see if we can update this list to include more.

We can now only think of what Motorola would do to expand it's portfolio, hopefully Sanjay Jha and company have learned all those lessons from the past and will carry the... [Read More]
