    Disable 3g help???

I am new to both this forum and modifying a phone. I have a problem I hope you can help me. I just purchased a Moto razr vxx from ATT. I love the phone, features, rf etc. with 1 exception. 3g in my area is spotty but edge is rock solid. I find my call quality and at times ability to make and receive calls suffers because the phone wants to hang on to a weak 3g instead of switching to full signal edge.

I have read it is possible to mod the phone and allow edge only. Problem is, the info is all very confusing to me. I read the guide page and am still confused as to exactly what I need to download for this particular mod.

I also have the phone connected to my pc via MPT and it syncs with outlook and I can tether perfectly and I'm afraid of changing modem settings that would change this.

Please, if anyone could give me clear and specific direction and download info I would be extremly grateful as this network problem is very bothersome.

    Thank you in advance .

Yes, the V3xx will prefer the 3G frequencies over the GSM. All you have to do is go to Settings/network/network setup then select 850/1900 band manually speed set to medium and you should stay on that frequency.

That part I understand, my problem is instruction on enabling network settings. Also, is there then an issue with voicemail notifications???

    Thank you

I have a similar problem with my V3xx. I don't have "network setup" as an option. Mine has Settings/network/& two choices "service tone" & "drop call tone". I can't change speed or manually change bands???

After working all day on this I found the answer. Funny thing is I searched and posted various forums and nobody would take the time to give me a step by step so I thought I should do it.
    First
I have mobile phone tools installed and can sync and tether via mpt. I didn't have to install any drivers etc because mpt already did it. There are posts available that describe how to install the drivers if you need them but using mpt is really easy and gives additional features as well.

I did a google search for PK2Commander Ver4.9D download. I found a site that had 4.9C aka 4.9D and downloaded the zip file.
I extracted the zip file to my desktop.
I pluged my phone into my pc
I opened the extracted folder and opened PK2 Commander.
It found my phone. I then clicked on the button labled seem.
A window came up with many line items and some with checkmarks. I found if I selected a line item and right clicked I had an option to toggle the setting.
    The 2 functions I toggled were;

    BLOCK ADVANCE MENUS: Settings>Network;On;Off

    Network >Network Setup >Band On;Off

I then clicked write seem to phone and then closed the seem window.
I clicked restart phone in PK2

    My phone rebooted.
I now have network selection choices etc.
    I set mine
    Band 850/1900
    Type Automatic
    Speed Medium.

I went into a 3g area and the phone stayed edge.
I changed the band to Automatic and it switched to 3g.
I figure I'll leave it a 850/1900 unless I want to tether in 3g I will switch to auto.
I read somewhere the the voicemail indicator gets affected. I tested and have no problem.

    Good Luck

    Thanks Riy,
That worked, it's nice to be able to manually change networks if I choose to. I'm still undecided if I get better call quality/reception with 3G or EDGE though.

Nice guide. (I edited it a bit for better readability.) Basically, enter Test Mode and navigate the menus. That's the kind of first post we like to see - welcome to M3.
